Job summary

Burckhardt Compression AG is seeking an experienced Master Data Management (MDM) leader in Pune, India. The role oversees governance, quality, and timely creation of engineering and manufacturing master data and BOMs in SAP and Teamcenter, leading a global team of MDM specialists.

Responsibilities include establishing data standards, audits, and process compliance, while coordinating with Design, Planning, Procurement, Production, and Finance functions. Strong English; German adds value.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of industrial experience, preferably in rotating equipment or capital goods.

Responsibilities

• Lead governance processes for material masters, BOMs, routings, work centers, and DMS documents in SAP and Teamcenter.
• Ensure data accuracy, standardization, completeness, and compliance; drive continuous improvement.
• Oversee creation and extension of material codes, BOMs, routing data, and project networks.
• Review critical master data requests, approvals, and data migrations; ensure service levels.
• Mentor, develop, and manage a team of MDM specialists; conduct performance reviews.

Main responsibilities and tasks

Lead the Master Data Management team responsible for governance, quality, consistency, and timely creation of engineering and manufacturing master data & Bill of Material in SAP. The role is responsible for ensuring data accuracy, standardization, technical completeness, process compliance, and continuous improvement while leading a team of MDM specialists supporting global business operations.

Master Data Governance

• Establish and maintain governance processes for material masters, BOMs, routings, work centers, DMS documents, and product structures.
• Ensure consistency and integrity of master data across SAP & Teamcenter.
• Define and implement master data standards, naming conventions, and control mechanisms.
• Drive periodic audits and corrective actions to improve data quality.
• Ensure compliance with internal procedures, ISO requirements, and corporate standards.

Operational Management

• Oversee creation and extension of material codes, BOMs, routing data, work centres, and project networks.
• Ensure technical completeness of material masters, including BOMs, documents, routing, costing, and classifications.
• Review and approve critical master data requests and engineering change implementations.
• Monitor pending data requests and ensure adherence to agreed service levels.
• Support project execution teams with timely and accurate master data.

Team Leadership & People Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of MDM specialists.
• Allocate work, monitor workload balancing, and ensure timely completion of requests.
• Review deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
• Drive competency development and cross-training initiatives within the team.
• Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and capability-building activities.

Cross Functional Coordination

• Collaborate with Design, Planning, Procurement, Production, Finance, Quality, Service, and Supply Chain functions.
• Coordinate with BCAG and global stakeholders for master data harmonization.
• Support SAP implementation, upgrades, testing, and data migration activities.
• Act as the primary escalation point for master data-related issues.

Education, Experience and Languages

• Graduate in Mechanical engineering.
• 10+ years of industrial experience preferably in rotating equipment.
• Strong experience with SAP Material Master, BOM, Routing, Costing, and PLM systems.
• Experience in manufacturing, engineering, industrial equipment, compressor, pump, or capital goods industry preferred.
• Proficiency in English language and knowledge of German language will be an added advantage.
