We are seeking a Tax Accountant to support the U.S.tax function across property and corporate entities. This role is based inBengaluru, India.
The Tax Accountant supports the U.S. tax function acrossproperty and corporate entities, with responsibility for the preparation of taxworkpapers, reconciliations, draft filings, compliance schedules and relatedsupporting documentation for onshore review. The role works closely with theUS-based Tax team and internal stakeholders across Accounting, FP&A, AssetManagement, Operations and other functions to support timely and accuratecompliance with federal, state and local tax requirements.
The Tax Accountant performs assigned tax compliance, taxaccounting and reporting activities within established procedures and reviewstandards, maintains accurate and well-supported workpapers, and proactivelyidentifies deadlines, exceptions and data-quality issues requiring escalation.The role also supports tax audits, notices, REIT compliance, internal controlsand process-improvement initiatives across the Tax function.
Primary Role – Managed Portfolio Accounting and Reporting
- Preparefederal, state and local income and franchise tax returns, supportingworkpapers, extensions, estimated tax calculations and payment schedulesfor onshore review.
- Supportad valorem tax compliance by maintaining tax calendars and trackers,assembling payment support, coordinating required property data andmanaging consultant deliverables in accordance with establishedprocedures.
- Preparesales, use, privilege and other indirect tax filings and reconciliations,investigate differences and submit complete and accurate deliverables foronshore review.
- Prepareschedules and supporting workpapers related to REIT qualification,earnings and profits, tax accounting and other applicable taxrequirements.
- Applyestablished US GAAP and tax procedures in preparing book-to-taxreconciliations, tax return workpapers and financial-reporting support,including ASC 740-related schedules.
- Maintainfederal, state and local tax calendars, compliance trackers and filingschedules, proactively identifying upcoming deadlines, missing inputs andexceptions requiring escalation.
- Maintainentity-level tax data, jurisdictional registrations, renewals andlicensing inventories, and prepare supporting documentation for requiredonshore action.
- Preparetax analyses, account reconciliations and audit-support workpapers;investigate discrepancies, document findings and escalate mattersrequiring judgment or technical interpretation.
- Draftresponses and supporting documentation for tax notices, examinations andaudits for onshore review, and communicate externally only whenspecifically authorized.
- Performassigned Sarbanes-Oxley controls and other tax-control activities,maintaining complete supporting evidence and adherence to departmentalpolicies and procedures.
- Collaboratewith US-based Tax, Accounting, FP&A and other internal teams to obtaincomplete and accurate information required for tax compliance, reportingand analysis.
- Maintainorganized workpapers, clear audit trails, appropriate version control andconfidentiality in accordance with company standards and establishedreview requirements.
- Identifyopportunities to improve tax workflows, standardize recurring processesand reduce manual effort, and support process-improvement and automationinitiatives in coordination with onshore leadership.
- Workindependently within established procedures and review requirements whileproactively escalating issues, exceptions and matters requiring judgment.
- Workfrom the Bengaluru office under the hybrid working model, with workinghours aligned to provide meaningful daily overlap with US business hours;flexibility is expected during tax filing periods, quarter-end andyear-end reporting cycles, and other peak periods.
- Performother projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Bachelor’sdegree in accounting or finance is required.
- CharteredAccountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification ispreferred.
- Minimumof 10 years of related professional accounting experience preferred.
- Fiveor more years in a supervisory role managing a team of five or more ispreferred.
- BigFour accounting firm experience preferred; real estate or student housingexperience is an advantage.
- Strongworking knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 740, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controlenvironments.
- Workingknowledge of U.S. federal and state tax concepts; exposure to REIT andSubchapter K taxation is preferred.
- Experiencewith Oracle Fusion is preferred.
- Experiencewith tax software (tax return preparation, fixed asset accounting, taxresearch software) preferred.
- Proficientin Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Excel, Word andPowerPoint.
- Strongorganizational, interpersonal, analytical, leadership and presentationskills.
- Abilityto handle multiple high-priority projects with keen attention to detail.
- Strongproblem-solving and data analysis skills, with the ability to assimilatenew information, understand complex topics and arrive at sound analysisand judgement.
- Abilityto work independently while logically and strategically resolvingaccounting issues in adherence with US GAAP.
- Demonstratesa positive attitude and maintains a high level of professionalism whenworking with onshore stakeholders and senior leadership across time zones.
