Description

Selling on Amazon is one of the fastest growing businesses at Amazon.com, with more than 50% of all items currently sold originating from third-party sellers. The SPEAQ (Selling Partner Experience, Automation & Qualification) team is looking for a Systems Development Engineer who will design, build, and operate infrastructure and automation systems that power the solution provider lifecycle, from registration through qualification and listing. You will own the full engineering lifecycle, from design through deployment and operations, building production‑grade workflow orchestration, automation pipelines, and self‑service platforms at scale across distributed AWS services.

Our team enables solution providers to list their first solution quickly while ensuring trust and security are embedded into every step. As a Systems Development Engineer, you will: design state machine workflow orchestration for onboarding and qualification, engineer CDK‑based infrastructure for multi‑region deployments, develop automated qualification and listing vetting pipelines using Step Functions, Lambda, DynamoDB, and other AWS‑native services, and create proactive monitoring with fail‑fast alerting across mission‑critical jobs. You will write code held to Amazon Code Bar standards and work across Java and Python to deliver solutions where no prior playbook exists.

You will join a world‑class team of Software Development Engineers, Data Engineers, Business Intelligence Engineers and Systems Development Engineers in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Key job responsibilities

You design and build automation systems that power qualification, onboarding orchestration, and communication workflows across the solution provider ecosystem. You own the full engineering lifecycle, from low‑level design through deployment and operations, writing production‑grade code held to Amazon Code Bar standards. You build and maintain workflow automation using state machine orchestration (Step Functions), data pipelines (Lambda, DynamoDB), and CDK‑based infrastructure.

You develop proactive monitoring and fail‑fast alerting to ensure pipeline reliability. You design unified qualification forms with built‑in validations backed by modernized backend infrastructure. You build self‑service workflow capabilities that enable trust teams to create automation without engineering dependency. You participate in on‑call rotations, conduct root cause analysis, and engineer solutions that eliminate systemic issues rather than just addressing symptoms.

You collaborate closely with Software Development Engineers, contributing to design and code reviews with substantive technical feedback. You create design documents, runbooks, and trade‑off analyses. You reduce operational toil by building force‑multiplier tooling. You automate manual processes and improve reliability, scalability, and observability across team‑owned services.

You work with other Amazon leaders to share ideas and improve support across the company. You contribute to the strategic direction of the team. You play a significant role in hiring, mentoring, and training. You demonstrate excellent judgment when making decisions.

A day in the life

You start each day reviewing workflow pipeline health and communication delivery alerts, ensuring data quality before downstream processes consume outputs. You join daily sync‑ups with SDEs to coordinate sprint work and unblock dependencies.

Most of your time is spent building: writing production‑grade Java or Python to automate qualification workflows via Step Functions, standing up CDK infrastructure for Lambda and DynamoDB, and engineering onboarding pipelines that dynamically adapt to solution provider intent. You own what you build, from low‑level design through deployment and operations.

You collaborate with SDEs who own qualification business logic, partner teams and SPEAQ leadership who rely on your systems. Your end customers are solution providers, the systems you build reduce onboarding time and let them focus on building great solutions.

You also reduce operational toil through automation, participate in on‑call rotations, and contribute to root cause analyses and COE reviews.

About The Team
  • Our mission is to own the solution provider lifecycle from registration through qualification and listing, delivering a seamless onboarding experience with the highest standards of trust and security.
  • We optimize for three customers: solution providers needing a frictionless path to listing, trust teams depending on automated workflows, and internal builders requiring streamlined data sharing processes.
  • We reduce onboarding time through guided workflows with dynamic step skipping, automated nudges, and intent‑driven pre‑registration.
  • We improve operational efficiency by converting manual Units of Work to automation through extensible workflows.
  • We enable self‑service workflow building for teams to create their own automation, reducing builder dependency.
Basic Qualifications
  • 1+ years of DevOps or SysOps in a large‑scale software development environment experience
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
  • Experience with Linux/Unix
  • Knowledge of computer science fundamentals such as object‑oriented design, operating systems, algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
  • Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
  • Experience with automating and simplifying team development, test, and operations processes
