System Performance Test Engineer (AI, Automation)
This role is hybrid, requiring approximately 2 days per week onsite at an HPE office.
About the Role
HPE NonStop seeks a hands‑on System Performance Test Engineer to drive AI‑powered innovation and automation across the NonStop performance test suite. The engineer will collaborate with the Performance Team to benchmark, analyse, tune, and characterise Intel x86 platforms, high‑speed interconnects, and the proprietary OS & network stack.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in day‑to‑day performance testing workflows and identify AI innovation and automation opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Lead to prioritize and execute AI productivity innovations.
- Define and drive performance activities, including metrics, KPIs, SLOs, benchmarks, acceptance criteria, and regression gates for releases.
- Translate product performance and workload requirements into repeatable performance test plans.
- Use tools such as Measure, ProcessH, XProfile, Wireshark, and LoadRunner for full‑stack profiling (CPU, memory, cache, NUMA, I/O, interrupts, network stack, kernel scheduling).
- Analyze contention, interrupt distribution, socket backlogs, TCP/IP and RDMA tuning, storage queues, and filesystem behaviour to produce root‑cause analyses with software teams.
- Partner with hardware, firmware, OS, storage, and networking teams to co‑own performance outcomes, participate in design and code reviews, and advocate for performance‑centric architecture.
- Create and maintain AI artifacts (e.g., AGENTS.md, .github/copilot‑instructions.md, reusable prompts, workflow playbooks).
- Build and refine AI personas for specific use cases.
- Implement AI‑assisted test‑suite workflow automations (GitHub, CI/CD, scripts, internal tooling).
- Prototype and deliver Python or similar tools with clear documentation and adoption guidance.
- Track and report impact metrics (adoption, cycle time, review quality, defect trends).
- Provide enablement support through demos, office hours, and training sessions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of system performance engineering experience with strong coding skills.
- Proficiency in Python for test automation, tooling development, AI workflow automation, data analysis, and integration of AI solutions.
