PhonePe Bengaluru-based role seeks a Java-focused backend developer to build scalable services and integrate REST APIs. You will work with AI-assisted tooling to produce clean, testable code and interface with external systems.

The position emphasizes a pragmatic, fast-paced environment and hands-on coding practice. Candidates should be strong in core Java, OOP, and API usage, with experience using Cursor or GitHub Copilot in daily workflows.

Qualifications

• Proficient in core Java syntax, data types, control structures and OOP principles.
• Experience consuming RESTful APIs using Java HTTP clients and libraries.
• Familiar with AI-assisted coding tools like GitHub Copilot and Cursor in daily workflow.
• Ability to formulate precise prompts and break down tasks for AI-driven development.
• Strong communication skills to present technical information clearly.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Write clean, maintainable Java code adhering to core Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and efficient control flow.

Consume and interact with external RESTful web services using Java libraries such asHttpClientorRestTemplate.

Utilize IDE-based AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to navigate legacy codebases, debug errors, write unit tests, and refactor logic.

Craft structured, context-rich prompts to generate production-ready code and summarize complex technical documentation.

Decompose multi-step, complex feature requirements into clear execution steps optimized for AI workflows and agents.

Apply core networking fundamentals, including URL structures, HTTP/HTTPS port protocols, and web service communication, to application design.

Qualifications & Requirements

Java Mastery: Demonstrated command of core Java syntax, data types, control structures, and OOP principles (Inheritance, Polymorphism, Encapsulation, Abstraction).

API & Networking: Solid understanding of REST API architecture, HTTP communication, URL formatting, and hands-on experience using Java HTTP clients.

Modern Developer Tooling: Practical experience using Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar IDE assistants in a daily software development workflow.

Prompt Engineering & Workflows:Ability to formulate precise technical prompts and break down instructions for multi-step AI task execution.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences.

Past experience with startups and fast paced environments is an added advantage
