Job summary

GE Power Conversion Chennai site is seeking a Power System Engineer to join the system engineering team. You will support cross-disciplinary projects, analyze contracts, prepare specifications for vendors, and contribute to power system designs for VSD, transformers, motors, switchgear.

The role requires strong analytical skills, knowledge of international standards, ability to multitask in a matrix environment, and willingness to travel. Familiarity with Matlab/ETAP/PSCAD is a plus.

Qualifications

• Masters/Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from reputed College/University.
• Electrical system engineering/power system design & study experience in Industry / Marine / O&G / Power sectors.
• Minimum 7 to 10 years’ experience in engineering design / power system studies for systems based on VSD, Transformer, Motor, Switchgear.
• Experience of system integration working on multi-discipline projects.
• Knowledge and application of International Standards.
• Conversant with marine classification society (ABS, DNV, LR, BV etc…) rules for equipment certification.
• Ability to multitask with project/application engineers.
• Analytical and innovative approach in problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Basic and Detailed engineering for VSD systems, transformers, motors, switchgear, and cables.
• Prepare technical documentation as per contractual requirements, review vendor docs.
• Perform / review power system design and studies for various industries/domains.
• Identify technical risks and implement mitigation plans.
• Review solutions and identify opportunities for process, system, or equipment improvements.
• Ensure compliance with all EHS policies and procedures.
• Identify improvements in processes, tools, system solutions and technologies; roll out with leadership.
• Foster relationships with GE entities to maximize synergies.
• Liaise with Platform Engineering, Technology and Value Engineering, and Supply Chain to support projects.

Based at GEV Power Conversion Chennai site the Power System Engineer -System engineering role is an exciting opportunity for an action-

Responsibilities

• Support Business Verticals in creating and reviewing (in conjunction with the leadership team) systems solutions as part of the OTR process, ensuring that solutions are technically fit for purpose and that technical risk is understood and managed with contingencies identified.
• Support project execution- Analyze customer's contract, prepare specifications to vendors and internal stake holders.
• Basic and Detailed engineering for variable speed drive system, Converter duty transformer, MV/LV motor, MV/LV switchgear, power and signal cables
• Prepare technical documentation as per contractual requirements, vendor documentation review.
• Perform / review power system design and studies for various industries/domains.
• Identify technical risks and put in place the mitigation plan.
• Review solutions developed and identify opportunities for improvement of process, system, or equipment
• Ensure strict compliance with all company and customer’s EHS policies and procedures.
• Identify and propose improvements in processes, tools, system solutions and technologies, rolling out improvements when agreed with leadership team
• Foster relationship with other GE business entities to maximize the benefits of synergies.
• Liaise with Platform Engineering, Technology and Value Engineering, and Supply Chain as appropriate to support the project and the business.
• Liaise with other GE businesses, platform verticals, supply chain, sub-contractors and suppliers as appropriate to support the project and the business.
• Drive lean mind set to provide optimum technical solutions for the projects.

Requirements
