Job summary

GE Power Conversion in Chennai is seeking a Lead Power System Engineer to drive system engineering across multi-discipline projects. You will analyze contracts, prepare specifications for vendors and internal teams, and perform basic to detailed engineering for VSD systems, transformers, motors, and switchgear.

The role requires a strong background in power system studies, international standards, and ability to work across matrix teams with global stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Masters / Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from reputed College/University.
• Minimum of 10 to 12 years’ experience in engineering design / power system studies for systems based on VSD, Transformer, Motor, Switchgear.
• Experience of system integration working on multi-discipline projects.
• Knowledge and application of International Standards.
• Conversant with marine classification society rules for equipment certification.
• Ability to adapt and multitask with project/application engineers.
• Analytical and innovative approach in problem solving.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Work in a team in matrix environment for successful execution of project.
• Willingness to travel within base country and overseas for short/long term assignments.
• Proficiency in Matlab, ETAP, EDSA, PSCAD, SKM, EMTP will be added advantage.
• Proficiency in French/German language will be an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Support Business Verticals in creating and reviewing systems solutions as part of the OTR process, ensuring solutions are technically fit and risks understood.
• Lead project execution - Analyze contract, prepare specifications to vendors and internal stakeholders.
• Basic and Detailed engineering for VSD systems, Converter duty transformer, MV/LV motor, MV/LV switchgear, power and signal cables.
• Prepare technical documentation as per contractual requirements, vendor documentation review.
• Perform / review power system design and studies for various industries/domains.
• Identify technical risks and mitigation plans.
• Review solutions and identify opportunities for improvement of process, system, or equipment.
• Ensure compliance with all EHS policies and procedures.
• Identify and propose improvements in processes, tools, system solutions and technologies, rolling out improvements with leadership.
• Foster relationship with GE entities to maximize synergies.
• Liaise with Platform Engineering, Technology and Value Engineering, and Supply Chain to support project and business.
• Liaise with other GE businesses, platform verticals, supply chain, subcontractors and suppliers to support project and business.
• Drive lean mindset to provide optimum technical solutions for projects.

Based at GEV Power Conversion Chennai site the lead Power System Engineer -System engineering role is an exciting opportunity for an action-oriented individual with deep technical foundation of Power Conversion equipment.

Responsibilities

• Support Business Verticals in creating and reviewing (in conjunction with the leadership team) systems solutions as part of the OTR process, ensuring that solutions are technically fit for purpose and that technical risk is understood and managed with contingencies identified.
• Lead project execution - Analyze customer's contract, prepare specifications to vendors and internal stake holders.
• Basic and Detailed engineering for variable speed drive system, Converter duty transformer, MV/LV motor, MV/LV switchgear, power and signal cables
• Prepare technical documentation as per contractual requirements, vendor documentation review.
• Perform / review power system design and studies for various industries/domains.
• Identify technical risks and put in place the mitigation plan.
• Review solutions developed and identify opportunities for improvement of process, system, or equipment
• Ensure strict compliance with all company and customer’s EHS policies and procedures
• Identify and propose improvements in processes, tools, system solutions and technologies, rolling out improvements when agreed with leadership team.
• Foster relationship with other GE business entities to maximize the benefits of synergies.
