Job summary

Leidos in Pune, India is seeking a Substation Protection and Control Engineer to join our power delivery team. The role focuses on detailed design of protection and control deliverables for US utility projects and requires collaboration with internal teams and clients.

The candidate should have 2+ years of relevant experience and a degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil/Industrial Engineering or related field. AutoCAD Electrical and MicroStation experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience with US utilities.
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Industrial Engineering or related discipline.
• Direct US substation protection and control design experience with NE/NY/PPL/RIE preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal teams and clients.
• Basic understanding of substation drawings and substation communications.

Responsibilities

• Detailed design of substation deliverables (SLDs, relay/metering diagrams, three‑line diagrams, protection schemes, network diagrams, RTU/Annunciator drawings, panel views).
• Detailed wiring drawings for panel‑to‑panel and panel‑to‑yard connections.
• Develop BOMs, revise cable schedules, and create drawing lists as needed.
• Understand engineering studies such as voltage drop, conduit fill, and load sizing calculations.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams and clients to meet project objectives.

Position

Substation Protection and Control Engineer – Pune, India

Responsibilities

• Detailed design of substation deliverables such as single line diagrams, relay and metering one diagrams, three‑line diagrams, protection schemes for line, breaker, buss differential, transformer, networking diagrams, RTU/Annunciator drawings, and panel front views.
• Detailed design of wiring drawings for panel‑to‑panel wiring and panel‑to‑yard wiring.
• Develop the bill of materials, revise/develop cable schedules and create drawing lists as needed.
• Basic understanding of engineering studies such as voltage drop, conduit fill, AC and DC load sizing calculations.
• Excellent communication skills, interacting with internal teams and clients to meet project objectives.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of prior relevant experience with US utilities.
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline. Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Direct US substation protection and control design experience with National grid NE, NY, and/or PPL/RIE highly preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal teams and clients to meet project needs.
• Basic understanding of substation physical drawings such as control house layout, cable tray layout drawings, conduit plans, and sections to correlate physical design with the protection and control design.
• Basic understanding of substation communication – networking, telecom, cyber‑security.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field.
• Basic knowledge of substation protection and control design.
• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or MicroStation software.
• Experience with Bluebeam.
