Chevron ENGINE in Bengaluru is seeking a Subsea Geospatial Analyst to lead data engineering and enterprise GIS efforts. You will manage geospatial databases, data pipelines, and analytics across offshore and onshore facilities, delivering trusted subsea data and visualization.

The role requires 5+ years in GIS for oil & gas, Azure cloud skills, and experience with ArcGIS, FME, and Databricks. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to optimize workflows and support safe, efficient operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in GIS/Geomatics or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years oil & gas experience in GIS and web mapping.
  • Knowledge of standards for web GIS databases and data models.
  • Azure Cloud Skills certification preferred.
  • Experience with Visio, Miro, Slack for automation/workflows.
  • Familiarity with agile project delivery principles.
  • Offshore survey data methods, geodesy and projections are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain ESRI ArcGIS databases across Offshore, Subsurface & Wells domains.
  • Maintain Subsea GIS portal web service and support user requests.
  • Create web maps and dashboards with effective visualization.
  • Develop tools and features for the geospatial portal and integrate CRM/SaaS data.
  • Manage ArcGIS databases on Azure and enable secure access for users.

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1.30pm to 10.30pm

About the position

The Subsea Geospatial Analyst is a member of the Subsea, Civil and Marine Engineering Team within the Chevron ENGINE Center. The role provides technical leadership in subsea geospatial data engineering, enterprise GIS, cloud data management, spatial analytics, visualization, and workflow automation. The position is accountable for the development, integration, governance, quality assurance, and maintenance of enterprise subsea geospatial databases and data pipelines using industry-standard oil and gas data models. The role ensures the delivery of trusted subsea geospatial data, services, and analytical products through enterprise geospatial platforms, supporting safe, reliable, and efficient business operations across the Chevron Enterprise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Database development: Develop new ESRI ArcGIS databases across a wide range of domains including Offshore Subsea Operations, Major Capital Projects, Subsurface & Wells and onshore manufacturing facilities in company and industry defined data models e.g. International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP) Subsea Survey Data Model (SSDM), Chevron Sub-Sea Infrastructure Data Model (SSIM).
  • Geospatial Web-portal maintenance: Ensure the Chevron Subsea GIS portal web service is current, and the service level is maintained as required. Support ad hoc user requests and troubleshooting.
  • Spatial Data Visualization: Covering data considerations, map‑design principles, visualization methods, map production, and the creation of web-based maps and dashboards.
  • Geospatial Application Development: Drive the development of new tools and functionality within the geospatial portal. Interface with other company provided Systems of Record / SaaS solutions to enhance users’ experience, spatial analysis and real-time data visualization.
  • Cloud Data management: Organize and manage all ArcGIS databases and associated geospatial datasets on the dedicated Chevron tenant of Microsoft Azure. Control/ facilitate accessibility to Subsea GIS portal users and other company defined SaaS applications. Demonstrated proficiency in managing Azure storage areas, tools such as FME and Databricks, and expertise in one or more data-focused programming language/technology such as SQL, Python, JavaScript, R, PowerShell etc.
  • Optimize web-service level performance: Collaborate with Chevron product line architects and owners to establish efficient data process workflows to simplify and enhance the Subsea GIS portal web-service performance. Automate ArcGIS workflows for data administration, analysis and service linking using industry tools such as: Python API, notebooks, and ArcGIS REST API.
  • Data Architecture & Engineering: Deploy ESRI schema management and versioning, collaborate with Chevron product line architects to deploy subsea geospatial data pipelines including real/near-real time data integration. Deploy data quality workflows to ensure data accuracy, completeness, consistency and integrity.
  • Technical Engagement: Establishes & maintains working relationships with key stakeholders within the ENGINE, Chevron Technology Project & Execution, Capital Projects, Subsurface & Wells across the Enterprise.
  • Communication skills: A strong communicator who can develop plans with clear, achievable goals; generate buy-in and alignment from key stakeholders; engage and motivate others to contribute their best and simplify complex technical problems & solutions to enable stakeholder commitment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A university Undergraduate and Masters degree in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Geomatics, Geography, Surveying, or other related fields.
  • A minimum of 5 years of oil and gas industry experience related to GIS and web-based mapping systems.
  • Working knowledge of industry best practices & standards for the development, application and maintenance of web-based GIS databases
  • Microsoft Azure Cloud Skills Training certification.
    • Experience using Microsoft Visio, Miro, Slack or similar, to optimize or develop automated process workflows and system architecture would be highly regarded.
    • Demonstrated success working on multi-discipline teams as a technical contributor.
    • Experience of applying agile project delivery principles.
    • Familiarity with offshore survey data acquisition methods, geodesy and coordinate projection mathematics and transformation would be highly regarded.
