Job summary

Jacobengineers is seeking a Structural Design Engineer to design, analyze, and develop structural systems for bridge and canal projects in Chennai. The role requires 4–7 years in structural design for bridges or infrastructure, proficiency in STAAD Pro, MIDAS Civil, AutoCAD, and experience with IS, IRC, MORTH codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 4–7 years of experience in structural design for bridges, canals, or infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency in STAAD Pro, MIDAS Civil, AutoCAD and other structural analysis/design tools.
• Strong understanding of bridge and hydraulic structure behavior, load paths and detailing practices.
• Knowledge of MORTH, IRC, and IS codes relevant to highway and canal projects.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze bridge components such as decks, girders, piers, abutments, and foundations, and canal structures.
• Perform structural analysis and design calculations for RCC, PSC, and steel structures per IRC, IS, and MORTH.
• Develop and review structural drawings, models, and reinforcement details using AutoCAD and design software.
• Conduct load assessments including dead, live, impact, seismic, and wind loads for safety.
• Coordinate with geotechnical, hydraulic, and architectural teams for integrated designs.
• Review and approve shop drawings, BBS, and vendor/contractor submissions.
• Conduct site inspections to verify design implementation and provide construction guidance.
• Prepare and maintain design reports, technical documentation, and approval drawings.
• Ensure designs adhere to IS, IRC, BIS and international codes, safety norms, and quality standards.

Structural Design Engineer – Bridge & Canal Projects

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Structural Design Engineer to design, analyze, and develop structural systems for bridge, canal, and related infrastructure projects. The role involves collaborating with architects, hydrologists, and construction teams to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective structural designs in compliance with national and international standards.

Experience: 4 to 7 Years

Key Responsibilities

• Design and analyze bridge components such as decks, girders, piers, abutments, and foundations, as well as canal structures like aqueducts, siphons, regulators, falls, and retaining walls.
  
• Perform structural analysis and design calculations for RCC, PSC, and steel structures as per IRC, IS, and MORTH specifications.
  
• Develop and review structural drawings, models, and reinforcement details using AutoCAD and structural design software (STAAD Pro, MIDAS Civil, ETABS, etc.).
  
• Conduct load assessments including dead, live, impact, seismic, and wind loads; ensure structural safety and serviceability.
  
• Coordinate with geotechnical, hydraulic, and architectural teams for integrated design solutions.
  
• Review and approve shop drawings, bar bending schedules (BBS), and vendor/contractor design submissions.
  
• Conduct site inspections to verify design implementation and provide technical guidance during construction.
  
• Prepare and maintain design reports, technical documentation, and approval drawings for submission to clients or authorities.
  
• Ensure designs adhere to applicable IS, IRC, BIS, and international codes, safety norms, and quality standards.

• Prior experience with government infrastructure projects (NHAI, WRD, PWD, etc.).
