Job summary

Larsen & Toubro is seeking a capable shift lead for the alloy steel melting and secondary metallurgy operations in Gujarat. The role focuses on managing LF/VD processes, ensuring safety, quality and efficiency, and guiding a team of operators across the heat, ladle, and furnace platforms.

You will monitor process parameters, optimize material use, and drive continuous improvements while coordinating with maintenance, planning and quality teams to meet production goals.

Qualifications

• Experience in an Alloy Steel Plant, preferably in steel melting shop and secondary metallurgy operations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office and ERP systems for reporting and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Manage overall heat-wise operations of LF/VD and lead shift activities with safety and efficiency.
• Operate and monitor LF and VD processes to meet production and quality targets.
• Experience with EAF and VOD is an added advantage.
• Ensure compliance with quality management systems and customer requirements.
• Monitor key process parameters to achieve metallurgical and product quality goals.
• Control raw materials, alloy additions and consumables to support operations.
• Drive process optimization to reduce costs and improve yield.
• Lead continuous improvement projects for productivity, quality, safety, and efficiency.
• Analyze process data and implement corrective actions.
• Mentor shift personnel to develop discipline and capability.
• Conduct root-cause analysis for deviations and equipment issues.
• Ensure safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with production, maintenance, quality and planning for smooth operations.
• Monitor consumption norms and reduce losses while improving productivity.
• Utilize analytical skills to implement sustainable improvements.
• Prepare operational reports and production records.
• Proficient in MS Office and ERP for reporting and monitoring.

Job description

• Manage overall heat-wise operations of LF/VD and lead shift activities while ensuring safe and efficient working practices.
• Operate and monitor LF (Ladle Furnace) and VD (Vacuum Degassing) processes to achieve production and quality targets.
• Experience in EAF (Electric Arc Furnace) and VOD (Vacuum Oxygen Decarburization) operations will be an added advantage.
• Possess strong knowledge of alloy steel melting, secondary metallurgy, and clean steel-making practices.
• Ensure compliance with quality management systems, process standards, and customer requirements.
• Monitor and control key process parameters to achieve desired metallurgical and product quality results.
• Manage raw material, alloy additions, and consumable inventory effectively to support uninterrupted operations.
• Drive cost reduction initiatives through process optimization, yield improvement, and resource conservation.
• Lead continuous improvement projects to enhance productivity, quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
• Analyze process data and implement corrective and preventive actions for process improvements.
• Guide and mentor shift personnel to ensure discipline, skill development, and team effectiveness.
• Conduct root cause analysis for process deviations, quality issues, and equipment-related problems.
• Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and statutory regulations in all operations.
