Systems Engineer – Trip Optimizer

We are a global leader in freight and transit rail solutions, delivering innovative technology and services.

About the Role

As a Systems Engineer, you will work closely with Product Management and railroad customers to develop and deploy Wabtec’s Trip Optimizer Energy Management product, an intelligent, fuel‑saving cruise control for locomotives.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to future concepts and design enhancements for the Trip Optimizer product, applying sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards.
• Translate customer needs and requirements, resolve specification issues, handle technical correspondence, provide periodic updates, ensure customer satisfaction, and coordinate with cross‑functional teams.
• Serve as a Technical Leader for projects across global cross‑functional teams, ensuring cradle‑to‑grave success.
• Participate in the development of proposals for projects.
• Work with Wabtec’s scientific community and railroad subject‑matter experts to evaluate freight automation solutions in field trials and operational environments.
• Lead and participate in technical and program reviews.
• Maintain broad awareness of technical trends to ensure technical quality excellence and timely completion.
• Desired experience with prior system design, on‑board distributed systems architecture, and knowledge of AAR and CENELEC standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 5 years hands‑on design, requirements development and implementation experience in Engineering Systems, Hardware / Software Engineering, and/or Data Information Systems.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to work in a cross‑functional, global environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
