Job summary

Commonwealth Bank in Bengaluru seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead automation, cloud, and DevSecOps initiatives across hybrid environments. You will enhance reliability, ensure security, and drive scalable platform delivery with a strong focus on SRE practices and modern CI/CD pipelines.

The role requires deep experience in Terraform/CDK/CloudFormation, VMware, and AWS fundamentals, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to raise operational excellence and governance.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in automation, cloud, hybrid and DevSecOps.
• Experience deploying and managing monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Fluentbit).
• Experience with Ansible automation platform (formerly Ansible Tower).
• Experience in Software Engineering/DevOps/SRE in a hybrid environment.
• Cloud AWS fundamental services (IAM, VPC, EC2).
• Experience with VMware products like VCF, NSX, VMware Aria.
• Exposure to networking technologies SNMP, firewall, KVM and switching.
• Proficient in scripting languages including PowerShell, Bash, Python, TypeScript.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools - CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform.
• CI/CD tools like CodeBuild, CodePipeline, Artifactory, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions.
• Distributed version control: GitHub, GitLab.

Responsibilities

• Lead automation, cloud, hybrid, and DevSecOps platforms ensuring reliability, scalability, and security across enterprise environments.
• Apply SRE and DevOps practices to improve availability, incident response, and operational excellence in hybrid infrastructures.
• Manage AWS and VMware platforms (vSphere, NSX, Aria) including compute, network, and hybrid integrations.
• Develop automation and Infrastructure‑as‑Code using scripting languages and tools such as Terraform, CDK, and CloudFormation.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and version control practices using GitHub/GitLab and modern DevOps toolchains.
• Collaborate with cloud, network, security, and application teams to embed DevSecOps, governance, and automation standards.

Business & Team:

The CTO organisation is responsible for building, running, and evolving the bank’s core technology platforms. It drives technology strategy, software engineering, cloud and infrastructure platforms, reliability, security, and modernisation to enable safe, scalable, and innovative digital experiences for customers and business units. The Storage and Data Protection team designs, engineers, and operates enterprise storage and backup platforms. The team ensures data availability, resilience, security, and compliance across on‑premises and cloud environments by managing storage services, backup and recovery, data protection, migrations, and disaster recovery capabilities.

Impact & contribution:

You drive reliable, scalable automation and cloud platforms across hybrid environments, improving system stability and delivery speed. Through strong SRE, DevSecOps, and automation practices, you enhance platform resilience, operational efficiency, and secure delivery of business‑critical services.

Roles & Responsibilities:
