Who You Are

As a Staff Software Engineer L5, you design and build resilient, secure, high-throughput, multi-tenant services that support critical business and platform needs. You bring strong technical judgment to system design, reliability, scalability, and maintainability, and you help raise the engineering bar through hands‑on leadership and collaboration. You work closely with engineers, teams across Inovalon, and external customers to deliver robust solutions with a fast, data‑driven feedback loop. Your work strengthens service reliability, infrastructure strategy, and long‑term engineering excellence.

What You'll Do
  • Design distributed systems that are resilient, secure, and scalable from inception for high‑throughput, multi‑tenant services.
  • Raise the engineering bar for scale, resiliency, and security by providing technical leadership and promoting engineering excellence.
  • Discover, review, and influence evolving designs, architectures, and standards for building and delivering services and solutions.
  • Investigate, design, and implement innovative technologies that expand Inovalon’s infrastructure through robust and scalable solutions.
  • Champion enterprise infrastructure vision and strategy while serving as a subject matter expert in service reliability and sustainability.
  • Develop and execute designs for complex systems backed by thorough engineering analysis, detailed design, testing, and optimization.
  • Develop, gather, and use metrics to manage server fleets and complex computing systems to drive automation, performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Set direction and goals for the team related to project impact, product quality, and engineering efficiency, and lead major initiatives, rollouts, and phased releases.
  • Mentor and onboard new team members to support successful ramp‑up and ongoing development.
  • Collaborate with engineers, teams across Inovalon, and external customers to understand requirements, maintain a tight data‑driven feedback loop, and participate in an on‑call rotation to resolve critical issues within defined SLAs.
What You'll Need
  • Minimum 8+ years of related professional experience, with prior software engineering experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 2+ years of experience leading design or architecture for new or existing services and systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
  • Excellent programming skills in object‑oriented programming languages, including .NET and C#, with experience in RESTful API development and EF Core mapping.
  • Proficiency with Angular and TypeScript.
  • Experience working with SQL, RDS, and DynamoDB.
  • Solid understanding of software and database design patterns.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and design for performance, scalability, and availability.
  • Experience working with managed services in cloud‑native AWS, containers, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD.
  • Experience working with OAuth2, JWT, and Secrets Manager.
  • Demonstrate growth potential and learning agility by quickly learning new technologies, architectures, and service patterns and applying them to improve engineering outcomes.
  • Demonstrate leadership by setting technical direction, influencing design decisions, mentoring engineers, and collaborating effectively across teams and with external customers.
  • Demonstrate adaptability by adjusting to changing priorities, evolving architectures, production needs, and phased delivery requirements while staying focused on outcomes.
  • Demonstrate creative thinking by identifying practical, innovative ways to improve service reliability, infrastructure, automation, and engineering efficiency.
  • Demonstrate analytical skills by using metrics, engineering analysis, and sound judgment to diagnose issues, evaluate tradeoffs, and optimize system performance.
