About the role:

As a Staff Platform Engineer, you own the technical strategy for a key product area or platform, ensuring long-term scalability, maintainability, and alignment with business objectives.

For platform-focused roles, you contribute to the internal developer platform features – help defining roadmaps informed by adoption metrics, feedback loops and platform SLAs – all in service of your team’s developer experience.

You exhibit advanced wide-ranging experience, applying in-depth professional knowledge and commercial acumen to resolve complex technical challenges and define scalable procedures.

You lead technical direction across a feature team or product domain, drive architectural decisions, and influence multiple teams to ensure consistency -balancing hands-on technical contribution with strategic leadership.

You develop deep domain expertise and actively influence engineering strategy at the organizational level, serving as a senior technical leader who is accountable for platform reliability, scalability, and the technical growth of engineers around them.

Your contribution will be:

• You own technical strategy for the infrastructure of a key product area or platform, ensuring long-term scalability, maintainability, and alignment with business objectives
• You lead technical direction for a feature team or product domain infrastructure, making critical architectural decisions
• You understand and work on complex issues where analysis requires in-depth evaluation of variable factors
• You determine methods and procedures on new assignments, exercising judgment in selecting and adapting complex techniques
• You direct the application of existing principles and guide development of new policies and ideas
• You anticipate and mitigate technical risks for large projects, planning proactively to avoid issues
• You drive architectural decisions and technical strategy across multiple teams and systems
• You influence multiple teams, ensuring consistency in technical approaches, frameworks, and architectural decisions
• You network with key contacts outside your area of expertise, frequently advising others on complex matters
• You understand the interrelationships of different disciplines and ensure cohesive technical solutions
• You develop deep domain expertise while beginning to influence engineering strategy at the organizational level
• You advocate for long-term technical solutions that support business growth and scalability
• You collaborate cross-functionally to ensure scalability and efficiency across the organization
• You work closely with product managers, design leads, and other stakeholders to drive alignment on engineering priorities
• You adapt your style and use persuasion in delivering messages that relate to the wider business
• You may be accountable through team for delivery of tactical business targets
• You translate business requirements into technical strategy and execution plans
• You drive cross-team collaboration and execution on strategic initiatives
• You define and enforce engineering standards, ensuring technical excellence across teams
• You mentor engineers at all levels and foster best practices throughout the organization, providing guidance on technical challenges and career development
• You establish coding standards, architectural patterns, and development practices
• You lead technical reviews and ensure quality across team deliverables
• You create and maintain technical documentation and knowledge sharing initiatives
• You define engineering roadmaps, aligning technical execution with business objectives and managing delivery expectations
• You lead teams in defining technical direction and ensuring successful implementation
• You develop and manage operational initiatives to deliver tactical results
• You translate functional plans into operational processes and guide execution
• Your work is reviewed upon completion and is consistent with departmental objectives
• You maintain significant hands-on technical contributions as a senior individual contributor
• You continue to write code, design systems, review architectures, and solve complex technical problems
• You lead by example, demonstrating technical excellence in your own work
• You participate in on-call rotations and incident response as a senior technical leader
• You implement critical features and infrastructure components for your platform or product area
• You contribute to knowledge sharing through documentation, tech talks, and training sessions
• You guide best practices across teams, fostering a culture of engineering excellence
• You help engineers develop their skills in Platform, infrastructure, and system design
• You serve as a role model for technical excellence and professional growth
• Attend and actively participate in team meetings and ceremonies applicable to current focus
• Participate in the interview process for new team members
• Help design and implement golden paths, service templates and self-service capabilities that accelerate developer productivity across teams
• Drive improvement that reduces cognitive load for engineers

To be successful , we think you need:

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 8+ years of professional experience in Platform, Site Reliability Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or related field
• Demonstrated expertise in architecting and implementing large-scale systems
• Proven track record of technical leadership and influencing multiple teams
• Expert-level knowledge of cloud platforms, infrastructure as code, and Platform practices
• Strong strategic thinking and ability to balance technical and business priorities
• Experience defining technical strategy and driving adoption across teams

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field
• Previous experience leading large technical initiatives across multiple teams
• Multiple advanced certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional)
• Experience defining technical strategy and roadmaps for complex systems
• Strong background in building engineering culture and best practices
• Experience working closely with product management and executive leadership
• Contributions to open-source projects or recognized thought leadership in the industry
