Job summary

Black & Veatch is seeking an experienced Instrumentation Engineer to function as a technical specialist or lead on projects. With minimal supervision, you will apply advanced engineering techniques and guide junior staff on medium complexity projects.

You will interact with Mechanical, Controls, Sourcing and Field Services teams to develop, validate and present specialist output, including instrument data sheets and I/O lists.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with instrumentation focus.
• Minimum 5 years related work experience in instrumentation engineering.
• offshore experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Experience in detail instrumentation engineering and lead roles.
• Prepare instrument index in SPI and work with SPI software.
• Review offers, vendor drawings and vendor documents for systems and subsystems.
• Develop comprehensive systems with Mechanical, Controls, Sourcing teams.
• Prepare device summaries, I/O lists and instrument datasheets.
• Interpret P&ID and F&IDs for systems and subsystems.
• Select and size loop instruments and control valves.
• Select and size analyzers, sensors, detectors, and probes.
• Develop wiring diagrams, cable schedules and junction boxes.

Job Summary

Functions as a technical specialist or in a lead role. With minimal supervision, applies advanced engineering techniques and analyses. Continues building on knowledge to develop concepts and approach more complex engineering problems. May provide technical guidance over a group or supervise engineering staff on projects of low to medium complexity. May be responsible for developing, validating, and presenting specialist/technical output.

Key Responsibilities

• Experience in Detail Instrumentation Engineering.
• Preparation of instrument index in SPI (Smart Plant instrumentation).
• Working experience in SPI.
• Performing Technical evaluation, review, approval of offers, vendor drawings and vendor documents of systems and subsystem packages.
• Developing a comprehensive system by interacting interdisciplinary interfaces such as Mechanical, Controls, Requisition, Sourcing and Installation & Field Services teams.
• Preparation of device summary, I/O list and Instrument datasheets for system and subsystem.
• Interpreting and review of P&ID and F&IDs for System and Sub-systems.
• Selection and sizing of Loop and externally powered instrumentation.
• Selection and sizing of instruments such as analyzers, on off valves, Control valves, limit, pressure & level switches, pressure transmitters, flow instruments like ultrasonic & Coriolis, temperature sensors, gas detectors, fire detectors and special probes.
• Intermediate and export Junction boxes selection and sizing.
• Instrument & Junction Box Grouping and developing cable schedule.
• Developing wiring, arrangement and layout diagram for system and sub-systems.
• Cable Level segregation, Conduit and cable tray selection and sizing.
• Selection and sizing of appropriate Power and Control cables for hazardous zones and non-Hazard zones.
• Factory acceptance test for various mechanical packages.

Management Responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

• B.E/B. Tech in Instrumentation & Controls Engineering.
• 10-19 years of domain experience required.
• Offshore Experience is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 5 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
