Job summary

TriNet is seeking a Staff Database Engineer to manage and optimize database operations across production and non-production environments. The role focuses on high availability, performance, and secure access while collaborating with software teams to ensure design and code align with best practices.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with AWS services, Oracle/MySQL/PostgreSQL databases, and DevOps automation using Terraform and CI/CD tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
• 10+ years of relevant experience.
• AWS Certifications (Solutions Architect Associate/Professional) preferred.
• Experience with microservices and serverless architecture.
• Exposure to monitoring and logging tools.
• Strong ITIL principles a plus.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple IT and Business stakeholders.

You may just be the right candidate for this or other roles.A Brief OverviewThe Staff Database Engineer is responsible for managing, monitoring and maintaining assigned databases and their operating system/CPU/memory/storage resources, as well as to ensure availability and performance complies with TriNet's expectations. This position is also responsible for overseeing database operations of the TriNet hosting production and non-production environments.What you will doProvide engineering, installation, configuration, maintenance and support in a 24/7 environmentMonitor designated applications and take corrective action to prevent or minimize system downtime.Build /create / refresh / move databases as required.Configure solutions for High Availability, Load balancing and fail over support.Secure all databases by developing system access, monitoring, control, and evaluation.AWS services, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services, Terraform, Github, Gitlab.Install/Upgrade database software, patches for Oracle, MySql, PostgreSQL DatabasesDeep understanding of AWS services related to databases highly desirable, particularly Amazon RDS, Amazon AuroraDatabase DevOps Automation and adoption using Terraform, CloudFormationStrong knowledge of AWS Services like EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, Aurora, API Gateway, SNS & DMSStrong Experience with Data Migration tools like Goldengate, DMS, FiveTranApply engineering knowledge, Database Observability tools and processes to identify/prevent/reduce the frequency or likelihood of potential issuesWork closely with software engineering teams to review application design and code frequently to ensure that standards are being adhered toWork closely with database vendors to seek support for technical issues.Provide technical solutions and escalated support for highly complex technical issues.Develop and analyze highly complex system standards, thresholds, and recommendations to maximize system performance.Maintain documentation on physical and logical layout and assets of the technical architectures to maximize availability and reliability.Implement changes into production environments to support change management and release scheduling.Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the manager’s discretion.Performs other duties as assignedComplies with all policies and standardsEducation QualificationsBachelor's Degree or equivalent experience preferredExperience QualificationsTypically 10+ years of relevant experiencePreferred Qualifications:AWS Certifications (Solutions Architect Associate/Professional)Experience with microservices and serverless architectureExposure to monitoring and logging toolsSkills and AbilitiesExperience in HR Services industry preferred.Strong ITIL principles a plus.Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Excellent TeamworkAbility to communicate effectively with all levels of management, both verbally and in writingStrong working knowledge on Oracle Support processes for technical requests resolutionStrong Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office skillsAbility to coordinate with multiple IT and Business stakeholders.Ability to efficiently work on multiple complex projects or assignments concurrently.Ability to think logically and analytically.Knowledge of Privileged Access Management tools like BeyondTrust, SailPoint etc.Work EnvironmentWork in a clean, pleasant, and comfortable office work setting.
