Job summary

GreyOrange is seeking talented Backend Engineers to design and build scalable, high-performance backend systems. You will develop microservices, participate in HLD/LLD work, and tackle distributed system challenges using Java, C++, or Python, with Erlang exposure welcome.

You will collaborate across Product, Design, QA, and Engineering teams, write clean code, and help optimize production performance while mentoring junior engineers as needed.

Qualifications

• B.Tech/B.E. in CS or related field from a reputed institute.
• Strong programming skills in Java, C++, or Python.
• Willingness to learn Erlang; prior Erlang is a plus.
• Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Experience with system design (HLD/LLD) and microservices.
• Knowledge of distributed systems and design patterns.

Candidates should be proficient in Java, C++, or Python and be comfortable working with or learning Erlang as part of the role.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend applications.
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code following software engineering best practices.
• Solve complex technical problems using strong data structures and algorithms.
• Participate in High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) discussions.
• Build and maintain microservices-based architectures.
• Design and develop distributed systems with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and Engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
• Troubleshoot production issues and optimise system performance.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical decision-making (for senior/staff-level candidates).

Requirements

• B. Tech / B. E. in computer science or a related field from a reputed institute (Tier-I preferred).
• Strong programming expertise in Java, C++, or Python.
• Comfortable learning and working with Erlang; prior Erlang experience is a plus.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object‑orientated programming concepts.
• Hands‑on experience with system design (HLD and LLD).
• Experience building and scaling microservices architecture.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems concepts.
• Good understanding of SOLID principles, design patterns, and software engineering best practices.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with high‑scale backend platforms.
• Exposure to cloud‑native architectures and containerised environments.
• Experience handling large‑scale, low‑latency, highly available systems.
• Prior exposure to Erlang or distributed messaging systems is an advantage.
