Job summary

Optum is seeking a senior software engineering leader to collaborate with stakeholders and drive end-to-end product development. You will guide cross-functional teams, architect scalable solutions, and push for performance and reliability across modern tech stacks.

You will lead design, development, testing, and deployment of enterprise-grade applications with a strong focus on microservices, cloud platforms, and best-practice DevOps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or equivalent required.
• 7+ years of hands-on end-to-end software development experience.
• Experience integrating AI/ML features into production systems.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and Kafka.
• Cloud exposure across AWS, Azure, GCP; Docker/Kubernetes preferred.
• Strong SQL and NoSQL data skills; performance tuning.
• Expert in Java, Spring stack and microservices.
• Proven leadership of cross-functional teams.

Job description

Primary Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with stakeholders, business partners, Partner Solution Architects, and Technical Architects to ensure reliable and accurate solutions that meet client outcomes
• Communicate new product and solution requirements to the solution development and management team
• Lead the team towards technical accomplishments, fostering collaborative efforts and achieving critical project goals
• Independently communicate with business partners to resolve design issues and negotiate project priorities and deadlines
• Perform analysis, design, coding, engineering, testing, debugging, and documentation tasks
• Enhance existing products and create new offerings utilizing the latest technology
• Build and lead a product development team to deliver projects that meet business objectives and solve critical user problems
• Collaborate with key leaders to develop strategic projects, streamline decision-making, and manage the engineering team
• Act as a technical leader, managing code reviews, post-project analysis, and articulating project success factors
• Provide leadership for planning, recruiting, and managing a world-class technology, product development, and application engineering team
• Continuously assess and redesign processes to ensure they are repeatable, sustainable, and scalable

Qualifications - External

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in end to end software development, delivering scalable, high performance modern applications, systems
• Hands-on experience integrating AI/ML driven features into production systems, including data pipelines, model driven workflows, and optimization techniques
• Hands-on experience with event driven architecture, Apache Kafka, messaging, and asynchronous processing
• Extensive experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Azure, GCP) for building, deploying, and operating production grade applications
• Solid experience with SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and NoSQL stores (MongoDB, Redis), including data modeling and query optimization
• Solid expertise in Java , Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Batch, Spring Security, Spring Data JPA, Hibernate
• Demonstrated expertise in applications with multiple upstream and downstream dependencies, including service orchestration, resilience patterns, and failure handling
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Maven/Gradle, and modern testing methodologies. Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability using metrics, centralized logging, distributed tracing, and alerting
• Proven ability to design and deliver enterprise level solutions aligned with business goals using microservices architecture, cloud native application development, and distributed systems
• Proven solid focus on performance tuning and optimization, including JVM tuning, database optimization, API latency reduction, and capacity planning
• Proven solid leadership skills, mentoring junior engineers, managing cross functional teams, and overseeing delivery from concept to production
• Proven problem solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills, enabling effective collaboration across teams
