Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer based in India to design, build, and operate cloud networking solutions. You will own features from conception to production, work on large-scale distributed systems, and ensure reliability, security, and performance while collaborating with distributed teams in an AI-driven environment.

You will develop backend APIs and microservices with Java, Spring, and Go, use PostgreSQL and Kubernetes, and apply strong software engineering principles.

Qualifications

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Software Engineer – Backend Engineer based in India.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and operating next-generation cloud networking solutions. You will take ownership of new product capabilities from initial concept and architecture through development, deployment, and production support. Working on large-scale distributed systems, you will help build reliable, secure, and scalable solutions that power complex multi-cloud networking environments. You will leverage modern technologies and AI-powered development tools to accelerate engineering workflows, improve productivity, and deliver high-quality software. Beyond development, you will be responsible for maintaining the services you build, addressing technical challenges, and ensuring an excellent customer experience. This role offers the opportunity to solve challenging engineering problems, influence product direction, and collaborate with talented, geographically distributed teams in a fast-paced, AI-driven environment.

Accountabilities

• Own the complete software development lifecycle, taking product ideas from initial scoping and technical design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing production management.
• Design, build, and maintain large-scale distributed systems supporting multi-cloud networking environments, ensuring reliability, scalability, performance, and technical accuracy under real-world customer workloads.
• Develop and maintain backend APIs and microservices using technologies such as Java, Spring, Go, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes.
• Leverage AI-powered development tools, large language models, and agentic workflows to optimize coding processes, accelerate delivery, and improve engineering efficiency.
• Take full responsibility for the services you develop, including production monitoring, customer escalations, on-call support, troubleshooting, telemetry analysis, and bug resolution.
• Maintain and improve existing services by understanding established codebases, identifying areas for optimization, and implementing sustainable technical enhancements.
• Apply strong software engineering principles to API architecture, database schema design, multithreading, and distributed system development.
• Ensure security, reliability, and scalability across distributed and multi-tenant systems, following appropriate engineering and deployment practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional and geographically distributed engineering teams to deliver multiple projects and contribute to broader product objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Approximately 4–7 years of professional software engineering experience, preferably in backend development and distributed systems.
• Demonstrated ability to build and launch software products or features from the ground up, while also being comfortable maintaining, understanding, and improving existing codebases.
• Strong computer science fundamentals and hands‑on experience with Java, Spring Framework, and Go.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, REST API design, database schema design, and multithreading concepts.
• Practical experience with Linux environments, containerization technologies, and Kubernetes-based application deployment.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL or similar relational database management systems.
• Experience using AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot as part of daily engineering workflows, with an understanding of how AI can improve software development speed and quality.
• Strong knowledge of security principles, particularly when designing and maintaining distributed, multi-tenant systems.
• A product-oriented mindset, with the ability to understand customer needs and translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills, combined with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with teams of different sizes and across multiple geographical locations.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to manage several concurrent projects.
• Previous experience or knowledge of networking technologies such as BGP, SD‑WAN, network overlays, or cloud networking is a significant advantage.
