Position Overview
The Senior SAP ABAP Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering high-quality SAP solutions across on-premise and SAP BTP ABAP environments. The role focuses on building scalable, efficient, and maintainable applications, leveraging advanced ABAP techniques and modern programming models. As a technical lead, the developer collaborates closely with functional consultants, architects, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into robust technical designs. They drive solution architecture, enforce development standards, conduct code reviews, and ensure performance optimization and clean-core principles are followed across implementations. The role includes developing advanced extensions using SAP BTP, RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP), and cloud-native approaches, and mentoring junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- First level contact for Business Analysts for inquiries regarding application or technical support and potential technical solutions.
- Analyze business requirements and functional specifications to determine effective technical solutions across multiple entities.
- Provide technical solutions and governance for SAP S/4HANA and SAP BTP ABAP solutions, ensuring compliance with architecture standards, development guidelines, and best practices.
- Design complex solutions across multiple functions, business units, technical tools, and systems.
- Design, code, test, and implement new application programs or modify existing programs.
- Consider trade-offs between performance, scalability, reliability, availability, maintainability, manageability, and business requirements.
- Provide post-implementation application support and regular system maintenance, including evening, weekend, and on-call support.
- Support new project initiatives as a Senior Developer, designing and building SAP S/4HANA and SAP BTP ABAP objects to meet business and technical requirements.
- Act as a senior technical authority, providing hands-on guidance, problem resolution, and design support for complex development and integration scenarios.
- May function as Team and/or Project lead responsible for completion of project phases.
- Recommend and promote platform and industry best practices, including cloud-ready development approaches and clean-core principles.
Required Qualifications
Level of Education and Discipline: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- SAP Backend Developer – ABAP Cloud
- SAP Backend Developer – Cloud Application Programming Model
- Any SAP Development Cloud related certification
Experience
- 8–10 years of experience working in the SAP ecosystem.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in SAP BTP ABAP development.
- Proven experience delivering and governing SAP ABAP solutions in large, complex enterprise environments.
- Strong hands-on expertise in SAP S/4HANA ABAP development, SAP BTP ABAP Environment, SAP Business Application Studio (BAS), RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP), Cloud Application Programming Model (CAPM), SAP Build, and SAP BTP Workflow.
- Demonstrated understanding of modern programming paradigms and cloud-based extension models.
- Strong business and functional acumen, enabling translation of enterprise requirements into scalable, sustainable technical solutions.
