Job summary

LexisNexis Legal & Professional, part of RELX, in Bangalore, seeks a Senior Product Manager for AI Search & Retrieval. You will own the retrieval and search layer, define strategy, and lead end-to-end delivery with an India-based engineering team.

You will balance accuracy, latency, and coverage for high-stakes professional users, measure impact with concrete KPIs, and influence stakeholders across engineering, data science, UX, and legal teams.

Senior Product Manager, AI Search & Retrieval

About The Role

This is not a general AI PM role. You will own the retrieval and search layer - the part of the system that decides what information gets pulled in before an AI generates an answer. You own product outcomes end-to-end, from strategy through launch and continuous improvement, with a general management mindset that balances customer value, commercial impact, and technical feasibility. You sit in Bangalore, working directly alongside an India-based engineering team and reporting into a global product organisation. \"Senior\" here means you operate in ambiguity and drive technical decisions rather than facilitate them - you can separate the retrieval mechanism from the interface on top of it, and you have the judgement to trade off precision, recall, coverage, and latency deliberately.

What You’ll Own

Retrieval and answer quality

• Own the underlying retrieval, indexing, and ranking layer that feeds AI answer generation (RAG), not just the results UI.


• Make and defend core retrieval tradeoffs: precision vs. recall, coverage vs. noise, speed vs. accuracy.


• Champion explainable, source-attributed, user-centric AI experiences for high-stakes professional users (managements consultants, financial analysts, journalists, researchers) who have low tolerance for confident wrong answers.


• Define how answer and retrieval quality is measured, combining quantitative signals (engagement, click-through, session depth, explicit ratings) with qualitative ones (user research, annotation review, failure-case analysis). Move beyond generic dashboards and NPS.

Strategy and roadmap

• Help define and communicate a clear product vision aligned to business goals and market opportunities.


• Build and maintain a data-driven strategy and roadmap grounded in customer insight, competitive analysis, and AI/industry trends.


• Develop business cases and investment proposals with clear strategic and financial alignment.


• Balance short-term delivery against long-term strategic investment.

Execution and delivery

• Own planning and execution for complex, cross-team initiatives; proactively identify and remove blockers.


• Write specifications precise enough for engineers to execute from; negotiate technical tradeoffs directly with engineering rather than escalating.


• Set clear success metrics, define KPIs and OKRs, and hold the team accountable for outcomes.


• Drive experimentation and hypothesis-driven development.

Customer and stakeholder

• Engage regularly with customers to understand workflows, needs, and business context; keep customer value central to every decision.


• Partner closely with engineering, data science, UX, marketing, sales, and legal.


• Translate complex technical capabilities into clear, value-focused product narratives.


• Influence senior stakeholders through evidence, clarity, and compelling storytelling.


• Ensure high standards of design quality, usability, and accessibility.


• Support and mentor other product managers, contributing to a high-performing product organisation.

What We're Looking For

Essential

• Direct ownership of a retrieval, search, indexing, or ranking layer - able to describe what it did and the tradeoffs made (speed vs. accuracy, precision vs. recall, coverage vs. noise), using the language of index, pipeline, retrieval, ranking, and relevance.


• Hands-on experience with products that use LLMs/AI to synthesise answers (not just classify or recommend). Understands RAG - or can describe it without the term - and how retrieval shapes answer quality.


• Proven track record measuring and improving answer or retrieval quality directly, using both quantitative and qualitative signals.


• Works at spec-level precision with engineering on technically complex, ambiguous problems where product definition and technical constraints are hard to separate. Has pushed back on or changed technical decisions, not just gathered requirements.


• Experience with professional or enterprise users who have high accuracy requirements. Has built source attribution, explainability, or caveat logic, and understands the cost of a missed result, not only an incorrect one.


• Significant experience managing complex products or platforms end-to-end, from concept through launch, with demonstrable business impact.


• Delivery of AI-driven product functionality is essential.
