Job summary

ORBCOMM is seeking a Sr. Manager, Engineering to lead and scale high-performing software teams responsible for cloud-based IoT and asset intelligence solutions.

You will drive architectural direction, delivery rigor, and operational excellence from Hyderabad, with onsite work expectations. You will partner with Product Management, Architecture, QA, DevOps, and Customer Success to deliver secure, scalable products while mentoring engineering talent and fostering a culture of accountability,

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressive software engineering experience with at least 5+ years in engineering management.
• Experience leading globally distributed software engineering teams.
• Strong track record building and operating cloud-native applications and enterprise software platforms.
• Hands-on knowledge of public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Hands-on with microservices, distributed systems, and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and modern software delivery methodologies.
• Strong understanding of SaaS platforms, API development, and system integrations.
• Knowledge of cloud security, performance optimization, monitoring, and reliability.

Youll partner closely with Product Management, Program Management, Architecture, Quality Assurance, DevOps, and Customer Success to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable solutions that support ORBCOMMs global customers.

This role combines technical leadership, people leadership, and delivery execution. Youll help establish engineering standards, guide technical decision-making, develop engineering talent, and ensure teams have the structure, priorities, and resources needed to deliver high-quality products. Youll also collaborate with globally distributed engineering teams, helping create consistent engineering practices and a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and customer focus.

This role is based out of our Hyderabad office. We operate in an onsite work environment.

What Youll Do

Engineering Leadership Delivery

• Lead software engineering teams responsible for the development and operation of ORBCOMMs cloud-based IoT, asset intelligence solutions and AI First offerings.
• Drive execution of cloud platform initiatives, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality, scalable, and reliable software.
• Manage engineering capacity, prioritization, and resource allocation across multiple projects and initiatives.
• Partner with Product Management to translate business requirements into technical solutions and executable delivery plans.

• Drive Agile development practices, including sprint planning, release management, and continuous delivery.
• Monitor engineering productivity, software quality, system reliability, and customer satisfaction to identify opportunities for improvement.

Technical Operational Excellence

• Establish and champion engineering best practices across software development, architecture, code quality, testing, security, and operational excellence.
• Guide teams in the development and operation of cloud-native applications, microservices, APIs, and distributed systems.
• Promote effective CI/CD, DevOps, automation, monitoring, and production support practices.
• Drive improvements in application scalability, performance, reliability, and security.
• Support customer escalations and critical production issues when required, ensuring appropriate technical resources and stakeholders are engaged.

People Organizational Leadership

• Lead, coach, and mentor engineering teams while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Develop engineering talent through ongoing coaching, feedback, career development, and succession planning.
• Build and scale high-performing engineering teams capable of supporting evolving product and business priorities.
• Create an environment that encourages technical excellence, ownership, problem-solving, and knowledge sharing.

Cross-Functional Global Collaboration

• Partner closely with Product Management, Program Management, Architecture, QA, DevOps, Customer Success, and other business stakeholders.
• Collaborate effectively with engineering teams across multiple locations and time zones.
• Communicate engineering priorities, risks, dependencies, and progress clearly to technical and business stakeholders.
• Apply data-driven decision-making to engineering priorities, resource planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.

If you have:

• 15+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 5+ years of engineering management experience.

• Strong experience building and operating cloud-native applications and enterprise software platforms.
• Hands-on knowledge of public cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Hands on experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
