CIP Terra Technologies is seeking a Development Manager to join our Mumbai team. The role entails commercial and contractual oversight for renewable energy projects across development, construction and commissioning, with direct exposure to senior management and international shareholders.
The candidate should bring strong commercial acumen, contract management experience, and the ability to coordinate across Finance, Legal, Operations and Treasury to safeguard project returns and delivery
Earlier this year, building on the strong foundation of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) as a fund manager, we introduced an optimized CIP Platform, with three platform companies providing services to CIP. To learn more, please refer to the CIP Platform section below. In our optimized CIP Platform, CIP Terra Technologies – a project delivery company delivering projects from onshore wind, solar PV and battery energy storage systems, to bioenergy, thermal and transmission infrastructure – is currently looking for a Development Manager, to join the team in Mumbai, India
Role The Commercial Manager will oversee commercial and contractual management for our renewable energy project through development, construction and commissioning. The role will ensure that project contracts are commercially robust, contractual obligations are actively managed, changes and claims are controlled, and commercial risks are identified and mitigated to protect project returns and delivery timelines. This is a high-visibility position with direct exposure to senior management, the Steering Committee and international shareholders. It suits a commercially minded finance professional who is comfortable operating at the intersection of finance, contracts and operations.
Responsibilities will consist of but are not limited to:
Support the management in strategic decision-making through robust commercial analysis, scenario modelling and clear recommendations. Evaluate options relating to financing, offtake, O&M, curtailment, merchant exposure, refinancing, asset optimisation and potential M&A / divestment, and articulate trade‑offs and risks.
Prepare periodic reporting materials, SteerCo decks and supporting papers, consolidating inputs from Finance, Operations, Legal, Construction / Technical and external advisors. Ensure board material is accurate, concise, decision-oriented and delivered on time; track and close out SteerCo action items.
Perform the commercial evaluation of new contracts and contract amendments. Assess commercial exposure, liquidated damages, claims, change orders, delay and performance entitlements; quantify financial impact for negotiation strategy. Support the evaluation, response and management of commercial disputes and notices (including claims, change in law, and termination-related notices) in coordination with Legal and external counsel. Maintain a contract register, key dates and obligations tracker.
Determine and recommend key valuation assumptions (e.g. power price and curtailment, generation / P50-P90, opex, inflation, discount rate, tax, and macro inputs) in line with the valuation policy. Perform quality assurance on the financial model and results, including reconciliation to prior quarter, variance and sensitivity analysis, and review with auditors / valuers where required. Prepare and present the quarterly fair value reporting material to the management.
Monitor Estimate at Completion (EAC) versus approved budget; analyse variances, forecast cost-to-complete and flag overruns early with proposed mitigations. Own the sources and uses of funds, rolling cash-flow forecasts and funding requirements (equity, debt drawdowns, working capital), and liaise with Treasury / Finance and the Sponsor on funding calls.
Maintain the project risk register: identify, quantify, assign owners and track mitigations across commercial, financial, construction, operational, regulatory and counterparty risks. Escalate key risks and present risk updates to management and the SteerCo.
Financing: track debt covenants, compliance certificates, drawdowns, hedging, DSRA / reserve requirements and lender relationships. Offtake: monitor PPA terms and performance, tariff, payment and receivables, curtailment, deviation settlement and grid / counterparty developments. Operations: track generation, availability, O&M performance, opex versus budget and key operational KPIs, and translate them into commercial impact. Keep abreast of regulatory and policy developments in the Indian power sector (CERC / SERC / MNRE, open access, transmission charges, RPO / GNA, etc.).
