Job summary

Reliance Industries (RIL) in Navi Mumbai seeks a Senior Process Safety Engineer with extensive offshore/onshore oil and gas experience to lead risk assessments and uphold loss prevention standards.

You will drive PHA/HAZOP/LOPA sessions, develop process safety standards, and support incident investigations while guiding MOC adherence across projects. Strong knowledge of OISD/API is required.

Qualifications

  • Must have 12–16 years of experience handling process safety studies for oil and gas facilities.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in chemical, mechanical or petroleum engineering or related field.
  • Experience with PHA/HAZOP/LOPA and other risk assessment techniques is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process safety work packs for operations and brownfield projects from early engineering to completion.
  • Facilitate PHA sessions (HAZOP/HAZID/LOPA) for site changes and larger projects.
  • Ensure effective risk mitigation to prevent major accidents and environmental incidents.
  • Develop and maintain process safety standards and procedures compliant with regulations.
  • Monitor/audit processes to manage major hazards and improve safety performance.
  • Support root cause analysis of process safety incidents.

Job description

The primary job function of this position is to provide expertise and assurance on Process Safety risks and achieving the highest performance standard in the field of process safety and loss prevention programs and contribute to the continuous improvement.

Key Words: Upstream, Onshore, Offshore, FPSO, Process Safety Risk, Barriers Assurance & RCA.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for process/technical safety work packs in Operations and brownfield projects from early engineering assessment stage till completion and implementation.
  • Arrange and participate in Process Hazards analysis sessions for medium to large-size projects and site changes as process safety engineer and lead PHA sessions for small to medium-size site projects/changes as HAZOP, HAZID, ORAs, QRA, LOPA, PSSR, and Bow Tie.
  • Ensure implementation of effective risk mitigation measures and controls to prevent major accidents, major environmental incidents.
  • Develop and maintain process safety standards and procedures that comply with internal and external requirements.
  • Monitor, audit and review processes to manage major hazards effectively while achieving industry best practices in process safety management.
  • Support process safety incidents root cause analysis to determine the actual issues for actions.
  • Analyze Safety Critical barrier performance and identify performance gaps for actions.
  • Conduct Training programs and Develop Capabilities in the field of process safety for offshore and onshore E&P operations.
  • Assurance on Management of change process for all high-risk site changes using company MOC.
  • Develop hazardous scenarios and able to interpret commercial, environmental, and personal risks using company standards and safety case for SIL determination of site SIFs using LOPA methodology.
  • Lead medium projects Process safety in design verification findings close-out.
  • Review dispersion and radiation simulation whenever needed for hazards assessment.
  • Work on Hazardous area classification, Firewater operation systems & passive and active fire protection systems.
  • Raise HSE awareness within team through arranging regular team safety meetings.
Qualification:
  • Must have minimum of 12 and maximum 16 years of experience in handling process safety studies for various offshore / onshore oil and gas process facilities.
  • Must have bachelors or master's degree in chemical engineering or mechanical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering, or a related field.
Required Skills
  • Specialist knowledge in one of the areas and/or significant operational plant experience in Process Safety or Loss Prevention and Safety Management System.
  • PHA / QRA / HAZOP / HAZID / LOPA & Other Risk Assessment Techniques.
  • Familiarity with major regulations and industry codes and standards affecting standard design (OISD & API standards in the field of process safety & Operational Risk).
  • Previous experience on Onshore & Offshore, Coal Bed Methane (CBM) and Pipeline Operations would be beneficial.Role & responsibilities.
