Job summary

Hubbell Incorporated is seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer to own end-to-end embedded hardware development, from concept through production. You will lead digital, analog, mixed-signal, and power designs, collaborate with cross-functional and global teams, conduct validation and certification work, and drive cost and manufacturability improvements.

Ideal candidates have 6-8 years of hands-on experience, strong schematic and layout skills, and proficiency with Altium, Cadence, and LTspice.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer with 6-8 years of experience in embedded hardware development, specializing in microcontroller and microprocessor-based systems. The role involves end-to-end ownership of hardware design, prototype development, validation, debugging, certification, and production support for both New Product Development (NPD) and sustaining projects. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional and global teams to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and high-quality products from concept to production

A Day In The Life
  • Take complete ownership of hardware design and development activities for NPD and sustaining engineering projects.
  • Analyze product requirements and specifications, estimate timelines, and actively participate in project planning and technical reviews.
  • Interface with Business Units, customers, and cross-functional teams to understand requirements and drive project execution.
  • Prepare technical presentations, meeting minutes, engineering reports, and project status updates.
  • Perform component selection, BOM analysis, cost optimization, and obsolescence management.
  • Design and develop digital, analog, mixed-signal, power, and embedded hardware circuits.
  • Create and review schematics, support PCB layout reviews, and ensure compliance with design guidelines and manufacturing requirements.
  • Coordinate with prototype vendors and manufacturing partners for rapid prototyping and hardware builds.
  • Lead prototypes bring-up, functional verification, debugging, troubleshooting, and validation activities at board and system levels.
  • Develop and execute test plans, verification procedures, and test cases for product qualification.
  • Perform environmental, reliability, stress, and corner-case testing using environmental chambers and laboratory equipment.
  • Collaborate with firmware teams to understand hardware-software interactions and system architecture.
  • Investigate and resolve hardware issues identified during development, certification, manufacturing, and field operation.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, validation reports, test procedures, and release documentation.
  • Support product certifications, compliance requirements, and production release activities.
  • Drive continuous improvements in product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.

Experience

6-8 years of hands-on experience in Embedded Hardware Design and Development.

Technical Expertise
  • Strong experience in Digital, Analog, and Mixed-Signal Circuit Design.
  • Expertise in Microcontroller/Microprocessor-based Embedded Hardware Development.
  • Hands-on experience in Power Supply Design, Battery Management, ADCs, Memories, Buffers, Drivers, Amplifiers, and Sensor Interfaces.
  • Good knowledge of Power Electronics Circuits, including MOSFETs, IGBTs, Thyristors, Opto-Isolators, and Solid-State Switching.
  • Proficient in hardware communication interfaces such as UART, I²C, SPI, CAN, RS-485, USB, and Ethernet.
  • Familiarity with wireless technologies including BLE, Zigbee, Wi-Fi, GPS, and LoRa.
  • Experience in Schematic Design, PCB Review, Circuit Simulation, Board Bring-up, and System Validation.
  • Strong understanding of EMI/EMC, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Signal Integrity (SI), and Power Integrity (PI).
  • Proficient with Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, Mentor Graphics PADS, and CAM350.
  • Hands-on experience with simulation tools such as LTspice, PSpice, and TINA.
  • Skilled in using lab equipment including Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, Signal Generators, DMMs, and Electronic Loads.
  • Ability to optimize designs for performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.

Additional Skills

  • Good understanding of PCB stack-up, layout review, signal integrity, power integrity, and design-for-manufacturing principles.
  • Working knowledge of EMI/EMC concepts, mitigation techniques, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to optimize designs for performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Experience developing design notes, validation reports, test procedures, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured engineering approach.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with industrial, utility, energy, smart metering, protection & control, or embedded electronics products.
  • Exposure to certification activities such as EMC, environmental, safety, and regulatory compliance testing.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading hardware design activities across global teams.
