Job summary

Spml Infra is seeking a senior Mechanical RD lead to drive the design of BESS enclosures, thermal management, and packaging. You will oversee the end-to-end mechanical development lifecycle from concept to release, collaborating with Electrical, Thermal, Software, and Manufacturing teams to ensure integrated system performance.

You will mentor junior engineers, develop documentation, and push for cost-optimized, safe designs that meet UL/IEC standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum experience 5-8 years in BESS/UPS product design.
• Strong knowledge of EN/UL/IEC standards is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and development of BESS enclosures, thermal management systems, mounting structures, and packaging solutions.
• Manage end-to-end mechanical development lifecycle - concept, CAD modelling, prototyping, validation, and release to manufacturing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Electrical, Thermal, Software, Manufacturing) to ensure integrated system design.
• Oversee mechanical simulation and analysis activities (FEA, CFD, vibration, thermal analysis).
• Drive innovation in materials selection, light weighting, IP rating, thermal insulation, and fire safety compliance.
• Ensure designs meet relevant standards and certifications (UL, IEC, BIS).
• Manage relationships with vendors and third-party labs for prototyping and testing.
• Develop and mentor junior engineers within the Mechanical RD team.
• Prepare technical documentation including design reports, BOMs, test plans, and validation summaries.
• Support cost optimization and DFM/DFA efforts with manufacturing and supply chain teams.
• Monitor emerging trends and technologies in energy storage and mechanical engineering.
• Design of Lithium ion systems must include CATIA/SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD skills, and calculation of floor loading for BESS systems.
