Job summary

General Mills is seeking a Senior Buyer, Transportation in Mumbai to drive end-to-end procurement across inbound, spot, shuttling, and PET network. You will partner with cross-functional teams to develop sourcing strategies and deliver cost savings while managing supplier performance.

You will lead RFI/RFP events, structure commercial terms, and collaborate with legal, finance and logistics to optimise value and mitigate risk in a dynamic global supply chain.

Qualifications

OVERVIEW

The Senior Buyer, Transportation will support the development and execution of sourcing strategies across transportation sub-categories such as Inbound, Spotting, Shuttling, and PET Network. The role is responsible for executing sourcing strategies, leading competitive bids, managing supplier performance, and partnering closely with sourcing and logistics stakeholders to drive cost savings, operational efficiency, innovation, and risk mitigation, while working with North America cross-functional teams across various levels. This role requires you to operate in 1.30 pm to 10.30 pm.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Support the development and execution of multi-year holistic category strategies in collaboration with Category Manager, aligned to business objectives, identifying opportunities for consolidation, innovation, cost optimisation and capability expansion. Lead end-to-end sourcing events (RFI/RFP) for assigned sub-categories, structuring commercial models, negotiating terms and driving measurable savings, value creation and risk reduction. Build HMM (Holistic Margin Management) and Total Value pipelines in accordance to sub-category targets; track savings and execute value-delivery initiatives. Stakeholder leadership - provide sourcing guidance and process best practices to business leaders, supporting transportation initiatives, translating transportation strategy into sourcing strategy and facilitating alignment between legal, finance, logistics and suppliers. Supplier Relationship Management - manage day-to-day supplier relationships, monitor performance, and lead performance management and continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers. Ensure compliance to General Mills' Sourcing Policies and GMI's Code of Conduct and Ethics policies are foremost in all supplier interactions and comply with corporate and regulatory policies and accounting practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain Management, Economics, or a related field. Experience: 8-10+ years of experience in Indirect Sourcing or Transportation Procurement, including experience managing suppliers within the transportation category and delivering cost savings. Technical Skills: Direct experience leading end-to-end RFPs, commercial negotiations, contract development, and strong financial/cost analysis capability including cost modelling, rate benchmarking, and ROI analysis. Soft Skills: Strong communication, stakeholder management, analytical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and project management skills, with the ability to collaborate, influence, and work effectively across Supply Chain, Finance, and Legal teams. People Management experience or readiness: Direct people management is not specifically required; however, the role requires the ability to influence stakeholders, build relationships, and lead cross-functional initiatives effectively.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master's degree, preferably an MBA or other advanced degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Economics, or a related field. Experience: Prior experience in Transportation, Transportation Sourcing, or other Indirect Sourcing categories would be preferred. Differentiating Skills: Experience in transportation sourcing, category exposure, and stronger business/commercial understanding would make a candidate stand out for this role.
