Job summary

MUFG's Database Operations team provides 24x7 RDBMS and NoSQL database support across EMEA and internationally. The role covers installation, configuration, tuning, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance to keep systems highly available, secure, and performant.

The ideal candidate brings MSSQL and PowerShell experience, Exadata familiarity, and strong Linux/Windows DB configuration skills, with capabilities in backups, migrations, DR, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience with MSSQL and PowerShell in enterprise environments.
• Exadata environment knowledge and Linux/Windows configuration for DB performance.
• Strong understanding of networking, storage, server, and virtualization layers.
• Expertise in database design, installation, configuration, backups, and DR/HA.
• Experience with migrations, upgrades, security, auditing and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, tune, upgrade and maintain database systems.
• Ensure workloads are delivered on plan and budget.
• Provide consultancy to application support and development teams on DB design.
• Perform daily health and compliance checks for Production systems.
• Ensure backups succeed and issues are resolved promptly.
• Monitor jobs and alerts; resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Ensure capacity to accommodate BAU growth.
• Respond to team emails and handle tickets efficiently.
• Maintain high availability, security, and performance of DB platforms.
• Provide technical support to other teams and participate in on-call rotation.
• Execute disaster recovery procedures when required and apply security updates.
• Review vulnerabilities and remediation actions from scans.

• Excellent experience of multiple database platforms such as MSSQL and Powershell.
• Knowledge of Exadata environment
• Excellent knowledge of configuring Linux and Windows operating systems for optimal database performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for database installation, configuration, tuning, upgrades and general maintenance activities.
• Responsible for ensuring that all project/investment related workloads are delivered according to plans and budget defined.
• Responsible for providing consultancy to application support and development teams on database and systems design.
• Responsible for ensuring daily health and compliance checks are performed for all Production systems.
• Responsible for ensuring database systems are backed up successfully and any issues are promptly resolved.
• Responsible for ensuring database jobs are running successfully and any issues are promptly resolved.
• Responsible for ensuring database monitoring alerts are detected promptly and satisfactorily resolved.
• Responsible for ensuring sufficient capacity is available to accommodate projected BAU growth.
• Responsible for ensuring all emails sent to the team distribution list are responded to in a timely manner.
• Responsible for ensuring problem tickets and service requests are handled with efficiency and the customer in mind.
• Responsible for ensuring database platforms are highly available, reliable, secure and performant.
• Responsible for providing technical support to application support and development teams.
• Responsible for executing disaster recovery procedures when necessary.
• Responsible for applying database security updates as per defined policies.
• Responsible for reviewing and subsequently remediating items detected by Qualys vulnerability and compliance scans.
• Responsible for ensuring all operational procedures are kept current and accurate.
• Responsible for participating in On-Call rotation, triaging and addressing production issues as they arise.
• Responsible for identifying cost saving and optimisation opportunities within MUS EMEA and the wider MUFG group.
• Responsible for building strong relationships across the Bank and Securities with other Bank and Securities functions and business areas, underpinned by trust and the core values of the bank.
