Job summary

Altraize is seeking a Database Operations specialist to provide 24x7 RDBMS and NoSQL support across EMEA and international teams. The role focuses on installation, tuning, upgrades, backups, security and high availability.

You will work with Linux/Windows OS, Exadata, and virtualization layers to ensure production systems run reliably, with proactive monitoring, on-call rotation, and collaboration with application support and development teams.

Qualifications

• Experience with MSSQL and Powershell.
• Knowledge of Exadata environment.
• Experience configuring Linux and Windows operating systems for optimal database performance.
• Strong knowledge of networking, storage, server and virtualization layers.
• Solid understanding of logical and physical database design.
• Experience with database installation and configuration.
• Experience with backup and recovery strategies.
• Experience with database performance tuning.
• Experience with migrations and upgrades.
• Experience with clustering and high-availability.
• Experience with replication and disaster recovery.
• Experience with database security and auditing.
• Knowledge of data security governance and regulations such as GDPR and SOX.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, tune, upgrade and maintain database systems.
• Ensure project workloads are delivered within plans and budgets.
• Provide consultancy to application support and development teams on database design.
• Perform daily health and compliance checks for Production systems.
• Ensure databases are backed up and issues are resolved promptly.
• Ensure database jobs run successfully and issues are addressed.
• Respond to monitoring alerts promptly and satisfactorily.
• Ensure capacity to accommodate projected BAU growth.
• Respond to emails to team distribution lists in a timely manner.
• Handle problem tickets and service requests efficiently with customers in mind.
• Maintain high availability, reliability, security and performance of database platforms.
• Provide technical support to application support and development teams.
• Execute disaster recovery procedures when necessary.
• Apply database security updates per policies.
• Review and remediate findings from Qualys scans.
• Keep operational procedures current and accurate.
• Participate in On-Call rotation and triage production issues.
• Identify cost saving and optimization opportunities within MUS EMEA and the wider MUFG group.
• Build relationships across Bank and Securities functions and business areas.

• Responsible for ensuring daily health and compliance checks are performed for all Production systems.
• Responsible for ensuring database systems are backed up successfully and any issues are promptly resolved.
• Responsible for ensuring database jobs are running successfully and any issues are promptly resolved.
• Responsible for ensuring database monitoring alerts are detected promptly and satisfactorily resolved.
• Responsible for ensuring sufficient capacity is available to accommodate projected BAU growth.
• Responsible for ensuring all emails sent to the team distribution list are responded to in a timely manner.
• Responsible for ensuring problem tickets and service requests are handled with efficiency and the customer in mind.
• Responsible for ensuring database platforms are highly available, reliable, secure and performant.
• Responsible for providing technical support to application support and development teams.
• Responsible for executing disaster recovery procedures when necessary.
• Responsible for applying database security updates as per defined policies.
• Responsible for reviewing and subsequently remediating items detected by Qualys vulnerability and compliance scans.
• Responsible for ensuring all operational procedures are kept current and accurate.
• Responsible for participating in On-Call rotation, triaging and addressing production issues as they arise.
• Responsible for identifying cost saving and optimisation opportunities within MUS EMEA and the wider MUFG group.
• Responsible for building strong relationships across the Bank and Securities with other Bank and Securities functions and business areas, underpinned by trust and the core values of the bank.
