Job summary

The incumbent will oversee training programs, engage qualified coaches, and ensure compliance with university and sports-body guidelines, while maintaining budgets and schedules.

Qualifications

• Essential: Bachelor's/Master's degree in Physical Education (B.P.Ed./M.P.Ed.) or equivalent qualification.
• Preferred: Relevant sports coaching certification.
• Experience: in university/college sports administration, coaching, physical education, or sports management.
• Experience organizing inter-collegiate/inter-university sports events will be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct inter-departmental, inter-collegiate, and university-level sports events.
• Organize annual sports meets, tournaments, competitions, and recreational activities.
• Coordinate participation of university teams in inter-university and external competitions.
• Identify and nurture talented student athletes and form university sports teams.
• Coordinate coaching, practice schedules, and training programs with qualified coaches/trainers.
• Supervise sports facilities and equipment; ensure maintenance, safety, and inventory records.

Job Purpose

To plan, organize, coordinate, and manage sports and physical education activities for students and staff, promote participation in sports, develop university teams, and ensure effective utilization and maintenance of sports facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Sports Activities & Events

• Plan and conduct inter-departmental, inter-collegiate, and university-level sports events.
• Organize annual sports meets, tournaments, competitions, and recreational activities.
• Coordinate participation of university teams in inter-university and external competitions.

Team Management & Coaching

• Identify and nurture talented student athletes.
• Form and manage university sports teams.
• Coordinate coaching, practice schedules, and training programs.
• Engage qualified coaches/trainers wherever required.

Sports Facilities & Equipment

• Supervise sports grounds, courts, gymnasium, and other sports facilities.
• Ensure proper maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and availability of sports equipment.
• Maintain inventory and records of sports equipment and assets.
• Recommend procurement and replacement of sports equipment.

Student Participation & Development

• Encourage maximum student participation in sports and physical activities.
• Maintain records of student athletes and their achievements.
• Support students participating in university, state, national, and other recognized competitions.
• Coordinate sports scholarships, awards, and recognition for outstanding performers, wherever applicable.

Administration & Compliance

• Maintain records of sports activities, competitions, results, expenditure, and achievements.
• Prepare annual sports calendars, budgets, reports, and proposals.
• Coordinate with university departments, colleges, sports associations, and external organizations.
• Ensure compliance with applicable university, UGC, AIU, and relevant sports-body guidelines.

Budget & Procurement

• Prepare the annual sports budget in coordination with the concerned authority.
• Monitor expenditure and ensure effective utilization of allocated funds.
• Coordinate procurement of sports equipment, uniforms, kits, and other requirements as per university procedures.

Safety & Discipline

• Ensure appropriate safety arrangements during sports activities and events.
• Monitor discipline and adherence to sports rules and university policies.
• Coordinate first-aid and emergency support during major sporting events.

Staff & Campus Engagement

• Organize fitness, wellness, and recreational sports activities for university staff.
• Promote a healthy and active campus environment.

Qualification & Experience

• Essential: Bachelor's/Master's degree in Physical Education (B.P.Ed./M.P.Ed.) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Preferred: Relevant sports coaching certification and/or specialization in a recognized sport.
• Experience: Relevant experience in university/college sports administration, coaching, physical education, or sports management.
• Experience in organizing inter-collegiate/inter-university sports events will be an advantage.
