Design, build, evaluate, and operate secure agentic AI solutions that help teams automate common work, improve self-service, and accelerate decision‑making. This role will create the agent orchestration, tool integrations, evaluation approach, and guardrails required to move AI use‑cases from prototype to reliable production capability. Engineers will use Nationwide’s established Golden Path and standard development tool chain
Key responsibilities Build and deploy agentic AI solutions using AWS Bedrock AgentCore and Python with the Strands framework. Design agent workflows that use approved tools, APIs, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers to retrieve context and take bounded actions. Integrate agents with enterprise APIs, knowledge sources, workflow platforms, and cloud‑security services in partnership with the API Developer. Implement guardrails for identity, authorization, tool permissions, prompt and response handling, data classification, logging, evaluation, and human approval. Develop automated evaluation suites for accuracy, safety, latency, cost, and task completion; use results to continuously improve agent behavior. Implement CI with GitHub Actions and CD with Harness for agent code, configuration, prompts, evaluations, and deployment artifacts. Partner with SMEs to curate approved knowledge, define escalation paths, and establish human‑in‑the‑loop controls for high‑risk actions. Monitor production agent usage, failures, hallucination patterns, and tool‑call outcomes; maintain runbooks and operational dashboards. Contribute reusable agent patterns, MCP integration standards, prompt conventions, and reference implementations for the CPS AI Build Line.
Required qualifications Strong experience in secure software engineering, machine‑learning engineering, or AI engineering experience with deploying agent to AWS and building IaC code to deploy applications Experience with AWS Bedrock and/or AWS Bedrock AgentCore; experience with Strands is required. Strong Python development experience, including testing, packaging, API integration, and production support. Hands‑on experience building and deploying LLM‑based or agentic applications. Experience integrating services through APIs and MCP or comparable tool‑integration patterns. Experience implementing CI/CD with GitHub Actions and Harness or comparable enterprise tooling. Strong understanding of AI security, secure coding, access control, data handling, and production observability. Ability to explain AI‑system behavior, limitations, risks, and controls to technical and nontechnical stakeholders. Preferred qualifications Experience with retrieval‑augmented generation, knowledge grounding, vector search, and document‑processing pipelines. Experience with agent evaluation frameworks, red teaming, guardrails, prompt‑injection defenses, and human‑in‑the‑loop controls. Experience with Kubernetes, AWS, and cloud‑security services. Build and deploying Cloud Native applications using Infrastructure-as-Code: CDK/Helm Charts to AWS/K8s environments Experience building AI products in cyber security, cloud engineering, or another regulated domain. Experience with Agile product delivery and cross‑functional engineering teams. Ability to learn emerging technologies quickly and apply engineering discipline to build maintainable, production‑ready solutions.
Other expectations Build reusable, secure, observable software that follows Nationwide’s AWS Golden Path and standard technology stack. Prioritize engineering quality, automated testing, security, resilience, and maintainability alongside delivery speed. Collaborate across core product team and cross‑train with operational team, develop run books and move capabilities into production.

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non‑traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree. Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.
