Job description

Special Motor Equipment Operator/Laborer

The Town of Dartmouth Department of Public Works is seeking a candidate for the position of Special Motor Equipment Operator/Laborer. This role performs skilled and responsible manual work in the operation, inspection, maintenance, and servicing of special and heavy public works equipment, including dump trucks, snowplows, bulldozers, compactors, front-end loaders and related hand and power tools including jack hammers and chainsaws.

Responsibilities include plowing and sanding roads, performing road and drainage maintenance, patching potholes, raking asphalt, digging ditches, raising manhole and catch basin covers prior to street resurfacing, erecting snow fences and cutting brush along roadways. The position also performs related laboring duties, follows preventive maintenance procedures, reports equipment malfunctions, and may assign drivers or operate equipment assigned to lower-grade motor equipment operator positions.
