Job summary

VOLTO Consulting seeks a detail-oriented Software Validation Engineer with 5+ years of experience to ensure the quality of software used to configure and monitor merging units and related substation automation devices. You will conduct functional and integration tests of software features, validate IEC 61850 workflows, investigate defects, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to verify solutions.

This role offers exposure to SCL engineering, Sampled Values, GOOSE, and broad software QA

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software validation experience.
• Experience validating IEC 61850 engineering workflows.
• Experience with substation automation and related software QA practices.

Responsibilities

• Execute functional, integration, compatibility, and regression testing for merging-unit configuration and IEC 61850 workflows.
• Validate SCD imports, device settings, and generated SCL/CID files.
• Document defects, analyze logs and network traffic, and retest fixes.
• Maintain test assets, update test cases and traceability, and contribute to automation and test status.
• Communicate defects, results, and risks clearly across teams.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Software Validation Engineer with 5+ Years to help ensure the quality and reliability of software used to configure, commission, and monitor merging units and related substation automation devices. You will execute functional and integration tests of software features, validate IEC 61850 engineering workflows, investigate defects, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to verify solutions. This role offers an opportunity to develop practical expertise in substation automation, SCL engineering, Sampled Values, GOOSE, and software quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute tests: Perform functional, integration, compatibility, and regression testing for merging-unit configuration and IEC 61850 communication workflows.
• Verify configurations: Validate SCD imports, device settings, generated SCL/CID files, and configuration bundles.
• Report and verify defects: Document issues, analyse logs and network traffic, collaborate with engineering teams to resolve issues, and retest fixes.
• Maintain quality assets: Update test cases, results, and traceability; contribute to automation and communication test status and risks.
• Quality focus: Maintains accurate test evidence, traceability, configuration checks, and reliable results.
• Analytical thinking and problem solving: Uses evidence to identify issues, investigate failures, and support corrective actions.
• Collaboration and communication: Works effectively across teams and clearly communicates defects, results, and risks.
