Job summary

GE Vernova in Hyderabad, India is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop and test firmware for substation automation products. You will work on real-time embedded platforms, validate features, and ensure quality across the software stack.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in ECE/EEE with hands-on testing experience, familiarity with SCADA protocols, and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in ECE or EEE with at least 3 years of professional experience.
• Hands-on experience in test strategy, validation and testing of substations.
• Knowledge of serial SCADA protocols (DNP3, IEC 60870-5-101/103, Modbus).

Job Description Summary

Responsible for designing, developing and testing Embedded Software (Firmware), platforms and systems that control and run on devices that need to be tailored to the needs of the hardware that it has to control and run on (i.e. directly controls the real time functions of a physical device such as motors, alternators, engines, valves, fans, and other devices and products). Typically requires a deep understanding of the characteristics of the physical device being controlled, the real time functions it is expected to perform and the ability to design, develop, implement, and test the logic and software required to realize the real time functionality. Usually tailored for products and services across various P&Ls. Accountable for the quality of own work. Subject to direct operations supervision/prescribed work instructions/systems checking. Executes within a well-defined operations framework. There is generally a step by step sequence of standard operational tasks which need to be followed to achieve an end result.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Ensures the quality of software products by creating and applying Embedded Software (Firmware) quality tests to a feature, set of features, or whole feature area. Works independently and contributes to the immediate team or to other teams across businesses.
• Developing conceptual knowledge of professional discipline. May include support roles with specialized expertise or technical knowledge in broad area.
• Applies general knowledge of business developed through education or past experience. Understands how work of own team contributes to the area.
• Resolves issues using established procedures. Consults supervisor or more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
• Collaborates with others to solve issues. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Exchanges technical information, asks questions and checks for understanding.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in ECE or EEE, with a minimum of 3 years of professional experience
• Hands on experience in creating test strategy, validating and testing of substation automation products and solutions
• Knowledge of serial SCADA protocols (e.g. DNP3, IEC 60870-5-101, 103, Modbus)
• Knowledge of LAN-based SCADA protocols (e.g. IEC 61850-8-1, DNP3/TCP, IEC 60870-5-104, Modbus TCP)
• Flexible and adaptable; open to change and modification of tasks, display initiative
• Able to share ideas and work well in a team environment.
• Working experience in Test automation frameworks and scripting tools

Desired Characteristics

• Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
