This role focuses on designing and developing software systems that run across multiple platform types. Responsibilities include writing and executing test plans, debugging code, and building scripts or tools for testing. The engineer gathers and analyzes user and system requirements to support accurate software design and development.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
- Develop and maintain software components, modules, and applications using suitable programming languages and technologies.
- Integrate software with existing infrastructure, databases, APIs, and third‑party services to ensure smooth data flow and functionality.
- Implement enhancements, updates, and modifications for parts of systems software such as operating systems, compilers, networking tools, utilities, and databases.
- Execute defined test plans and protocols, identify issues, log defects, and perform debugging for assigned code areas.
- Participate in concept design discussions, gather system-level requirements, clarify interfaces, and contribute feedback for future design improvements.
- Support the lifecycle of services from initial design through deployment, operation, and ongoing refinement.
- Provide assistance in areas such as system design consulting, software platform development, capacity planning, and launch reviews.
- Build working relationships with internal and outsourced development partners involved in software systems design.
- Collaborate with other software systems engineers within project teams to deliver reliable and cost‑effective solutions for low to moderately complex products.
Education and Experience
- Four-year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience or demonstrated competence.
- Typically 0 to 2 years of professional experience in systems engineering, programming, or a similar technical field.
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Software Systems Engineer (CSSE)
- Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP)
Knowledge and Skills
- Agile methodology and software development practices
- API development and system integration
- Automation and debugging techniques
- Cloud platforms such as AWS and Microsoft Azure
- Containerization tools including Docker and Kubernetes
- Linux environments and scalable system design
