Job summary

Optum India is seeking a highly experienced Software Engineering Lead to guide architecture, development, and modernization of mission-critical enterprise applications on Mainframe platforms. You will drive modernization by integrating Mainframe systems with Java, Python, APIs, and cloud services, while mentoring teams and upholding engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Experience with IBM Mainframe Technologies including COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, MQ, z/OS, and batch processing.
• Strong exposure to modern Java/Python development, AI/ML tooling, and cloud integrations.
• Comfort leading architecture, standards, and DevOps practices across complex enterprise apps.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, development, and support of enterprise-grade Mainframe-based applications.
• Drive modernization by integrating Mainframe with Java, Python, APIs, and cloud services.
• Define engineering standards, coding practices, and development methodologies.
• Review designs, code quality, performance, and security compliance.
• Lead troubleshooting for complex production incidents and critical apps.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies and flexible work directives as required.

We are seeking a highly experienced Software Engineering Lead with deep expertise in Mainframe technologies and a solid understanding of modern application development using Java, Python, and AI technologies. The ideal candidate will lead the design, development, modernization, and support of mission-critical enterprise applications while driving engineering excellence, innovation, and digital transformation initiatives. This role requires a solid technical leader who can bridge legacy mainframe systems with modern cloud-native and AI-enabled solutions, mentor engineering teams, collaborate across business stakeholders, and deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing software solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, development, and support of enterprise-grade applications on Mainframe platforms
• Drive modernization initiatives by integrating Mainframe systems with modern technologies such as Java, Python, APIs, and cloud services
• Define engineering standards, coding practices, and development methodologies
• Review system designs, code quality, performance optimization, and security compliance
• Lead technical troubleshooting for complex production incidents and critical business applications
