Job summary

Cognite is seeking a Software Engineer with 3–6 years of backend and distributed systems experience to join our engineering team and build scalable backend systems and data platforms for large volumes of industrial data.

You will work on distributed systems, data processing, cloud infrastructure, and backend services, solving engineering challenges while collaborating closely with product and engineering teams.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in software engineering, backend development, or distributed systems.
• Strong programming experience in Java, Scala, or Python, with a solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
• Hands-on experience with backend services, microservices, REST APIs, and SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Good understanding of distributed systems, scalability, performance, and reliability concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices that support high-volume industrial data workloads.
• Build and improve distributed data pipelines using technologies such as Spark, Kafka, and Flink.
• Develop reliable, high-performance APIs and backend services with a focus on scalability, availability, and maintainability.
• Work with large datasets and optimize data processing, storage, and retrieval workflows.
• Contribute to system design and architecture discussions, making thoughtful technical decisions around scalability and reliability.
• Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and implement long-term solutions to improve system performance and reliability.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and actively participate in code reviews and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Required Qualifications

Experience working with AWS, Azure, or GCP, along with Docker/Kubernetes or cloud-native technologies.

Experience with CI/CD, observability, monitoring, and production troubleshooting in large-scale systems.
