Dognosis is seeking a backend engineer to own the product infrastructure behind clinician portals, lab operations, sample traceability, and consumer health apps. The role focuses on Rust services, PostgreSQL schemas, and secure data handling across a multi-site study in Karnataka.

You will own deployment pipelines (Docker, GitLab CI/CD), help ensure data integrity, access control, and compliance with HIPAA, DPDP, and ISO standards while delivering reliable APIs for internal and external users.

Dognosis's clinical pipeline, EHR platform, and detection workflows are scaling across hospital sites, and the backend systems powering them need to scale with them.

We build brain-computer interfaces, wearable sensors, robotic platforms and AI models to standardise, scale and augment canine olfaction. Our focus is a breath-based multi-cancer test that triages risk at population scale, so early cancer detection can reach everyone. About the role

Dognosis's clinical pipeline, EHR platform, and detection workflows are scaling across hospital sites, and the backend systems powering them need to scale with them. We are looking for a backend engineer to own the product infrastructure behind clinician portals, lab operations, sample traceability, and consumer-facing health applications.

The System

Dognosis runs a multi-site clinical study collecting breath samples across hospitals in Karnataka. Every sample moves through a chain: patient consent in our EHR app, QR-coded kit tracking, cold-chain logistics, canine testing, and risk-score reporting. The backend systems this role owns (oneapi2, the EHR portal, and the CancerWatch traceability pipeline) are the connective tissue holding that chain together, built on PostgreSQL, Rust, and AWS.

What You Will Do

• Build and maintain backend services in Rust (Actix-web/Axum) powering EHR data capture, sample traceability, and clinical reporting
• Design and evolve PostgreSQL schemas for patient records, consent workflows, sample lifecycle tracking, and audit trails
• Develop APIs for clinician portals, lab operations dashboards, and consumer-facing health applications
• Implement role-based access control, data privacy patterns, and compliance requirements (HIPAA, DPDP, ISO 27001)
• Own deployment pipelines (Docker, GitLab CI/CD) and operational reliability for production backend services

What Success Looks Like (6 Months)

• The EHR backend handles multi-site clinical data collection reliably, with an immutable audit trail meeting ISO 17025 requirements
• Clinician and lab-ops portal APIs are live and serving internal users
• You have shipped at least one major schema migration or system redesign without production incidents

You Are a Good Fit If

• You have designed and maintained PostgreSQL databases with complex schemas, migrations, and access control in production
• You have built backend APIs that clinicians, lab staff, or other non-technical users depend on daily
• You think in data integrity, audit trails, and access control before performance optimisation
• You are comfortable working in Rust, or have strong systems-language experience and want to learn it
• You have worked in healthcare, regulated environments, or anywhere data correctness is non-negotiable

Valuable but Not Required

• Experience with healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR, ICD-10) or EHR systems
• Familiarity with AWS (S3, CloudFront, IAM) and infrastructure-as-code
• Experience building consumer-facing health applications or patient portals
