You will be responsible for driving solutions across the entire development lifecycle, from design to coding, testing, and deployment, in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key job responsibilities

The SDE II on this team will be playing a key role in solving complex problems and building innovative automated solutions for our customers. Candidate needs to have a high sense of ownership, ability to develop end to end solutions and improve customer experience. This role offers exposure to tackling scalability issues in complex process automations leveraging AWS cloud, machine learning algorithms, and distributed systems.

Ideal candidate will drive architectural and design choices, invent new features, develop distributed services, and build a scalable, service-oriented platform.

SDE 2 design and implement intelligent automation workflows that leverage large language models for natural language understanding, decision-making, and content generation. This includes building robust integrations with AWS Bedrock for LLM interactions, developing agentic systems using MCP for complex workflow orchestration, and creating AI-powered triage systems that can classify and route work with 95%+ accuracy across dozens of categories. Your solutions will process millions of transactions, handle real-time data from diverse sources, and deliver insights that drive productivity improvements across Amazon's finance organization. Ideal candidate will drive architectural and design choices, invent new features, develop distributed services, and build a scalable, service-oriented platform.

A day in the life

• Collaborate with SDMs, TPMs and Senior Software Development Engineers (SDEs) to contribute to the technical and architectural direction of the automation delivery team.
• Develop scalable, fault-tolerant, and highly available services/capabilities supporting our large-scale customers, streamlining the development of process automations.
• Take a lead role in guiding and supporting junior engineers, promoting best practices in design, coding, testability, and security.
• Encourage the adoption of new technologies and devise efficient algorithms tailored to our extensive customer base.

Our platform currently supports over 250 automations across 25 Amazon businesses, delivering 120K+ annual productivity hours while maintaining 93+ operational excellence scores. In 2023 alone, Workplace saved significant manual hours across FGBS and non-FGBS teams including Advertisement, Amazon Pay, AWS Sales, and PXT.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
