Job summary

OnebyZero in Bengaluru is seeking a Software Development Engineer with 7–9 years of experience to lead backend development for complex, scalable systems. You will design, implement, and optimize backend services while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

The role combines deep technical expertise with client-facing engagement and leadership responsibilities, including guiding architecture decisions and delivering large components/modules.

Qualifications

• Must have strong Python or TypeScript programming skills and experience designing scalable APIs on AWS.
• Must be able to provide client-facing technical leadership and mentorship to engineers.
• Experience with networking components (VPC, DNS, NLB, Cloud NAT) and secure deployments (IAM, WAF, CORS).
• Strong communication skills in English, with ability to engage with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead backend system design, estimation, and implementation efforts.
• Build and deploy highly scalable APIs on AWS.
• Own and optimize CI/CD pipelines with secure deployments (IAM, WAF, CORS).
• Act as the client-facing technical lead during discussions and delivery reviews.
• Mentor L3–L5 engineers and review architecture decisions.
• Deliver large components/modules with reliability and scalability.
• Balance 50% leadership activities and 50% hands-on development.

About the Role

This role combines deep technical expertise, client-facing engagement, and leadership responsibilities. You will design, implement, and optimize backend services, drive delivery excellence, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

What You'll Do & The Impact You'll Have

• Lead backend system design, estimation, and implementation efforts.
• Build and deploy highly scalable APIs on AWS, applying best practices in networking (VPC, DNS, NLB, Cloud NAT).
• Own and optimize CI/CD pipelines and ensure secure deployments with CORS, WAF, and IAM policies.
• Act as the client-facing technical lead during discussions, deep-dives, and delivery presentations.
• Guide L3–L5 engineers, review architecture decisions, and mentor team members.
• Deliver large components/modules, ensuring reliability, maintainability, and scale.
• Balance 50% leadership (reviews, client alignment) and 50% individual contribution (core components, POCs).

• Strong communication skills: fluent in English or a native ASEAN language.
• Expert in Python or TypeScript programming patterns.
• Experience designing and deploying scalable APIs on AWS.
