Job summary

NLB Services is seeking a Data Warehouse Engineer to lead the Snowflake data warehousing ecosystem. You will design scalable data models, manage Snowflake environments, and optimize performance and cost while enforcing security policies.

Collaboration with Platform Administrators and BI teams will ensure stable reporting platforms across the organization. The role requires 5+ years in Snowflake SQL, 3+ years Snowflake administration, and extensive experience with dbt, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of advanced Snowflake SQL development, including query optimization and data modeling.
• 3+ years administering Snowflake: security, RBAC, workload management, cost governance.
• 4+ years of dbt design, development, and CI/CD integration for data transformations.
• 5+ years using Git-based version control for collaborative development and release management.
• 5+ years implementing CI/CD pipelines for data warehouse and analytics deployments.
• Experience with Business Objects (SAP BO) preferred.
• Financial services experience preferred.

Role Overview

The Data Warehouse Engineer serves as the primary technical lead for the Snowflake data warehousing ecosystem. This role is responsible for designing scalable data models, managing Snowflake environments, optimizing performance and cost, enforcing security policies, and supporting analytics and enterprise reporting platforms, including Business Objects (BIC), across the organization. The DW Engineer ensures that Snowflake is stable, secure, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards, and collaborates with Platform Administrators and thirdparty vendors to ensure reporting platform uptime and timely escalation of issues impacting reporting availability.

Key Responsibilities

Data Modeling & Architecture

• Design enterpriselevel Snowflake models including conformed dimensions, fact tables, and semantic views.
• Document ERDs, modeling assumptions, and physical/logical architectures.
• Establish and enforce modeling standards, naming conventions, and performance optimization patterns.

Transformation & Automation

• Build advanced SQL transformations across all Snowflake layers.
• Implement automated workflows using Tasks, Streams, procedures, and timebased orchestration.
• Support schema evolution and largescale data integration patterns.

Environment & Release Management

• Coordinate Snowflake schema and object deployments via Git or CI/CD pipelines.
• Own release readiness for Snowflake across Dev, Test, and Prod.
• Ensure new models, views, RBAC changes, and stored procedures are validated prior to promotion.

Performance Optimization

• Conduct performance tuning through micropartition analysis, clustering, query plan reviews, and caching strategies.
• Implement Resource Monitors, usage alerts, and proactive performance dashboards.
• Review warehouse utilization to ensure compute resources are rightsized and costoptimized.

Security, RBAC & Controls

• Design and maintain Snowflake role hierarchies, object privileges, rowlevel security, and masking policies.
• Support audit requests, compliance checks, and evidence gathering for reviews.
• Govern secure internal and external data sharing.

Cost Management

• Produce recurring consumption reports to support conduct cost optimization analysis.
• Recommend improvements in warehouse sizing, retention policies, storage optimization, and compute scheduling.

CrossFunctional Collaboration

• Work with Data Engineers to coordinate ingestion design, transformation logic, and schema updates.
• Partner with BI teams to optimize datasets for Power BI, Qlik, and analytical tools.
• Align with Platform Administrators on environment setup, migrations, and operational readiness.

Documentation & Governance

• Maintain transformation specifications, lineage, and architectural diagrams.
• Ensure models and pipelines comply with governance policies and development standards.

Enterprise Operational Reporting Platform (Web Intelligence)

• Collaborate with Platform Administrators and the vendor to ensure reporting platform uptime and timely escalation of reporting issues.

Skills & Tools Requirements

• Snowflake SQL: 5+ years of advanced SQL development experience, including complex query optimization, data modeling, performance tuning, and ETL/ELT development within Snowflake environments.
• Snowflake Administration: 3+ years of hands‑on experience administering Snowflake platforms, including security, role‑based access control (RBAC), warehouse management, monitoring, performance optimization, and cost governance.
• dbt (Data Build Tool): 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data transformation frameworks using dbt, including testing, documentation, and CI/CD integration.
• Git / Version Control: 5+ years of experience using Git‑based source control systems (GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket) for collaborative development, branching strategies, code reviews, and release management.
• CI/CD Pipelines & Deployment Automation: 5+ years of experience implementing and supporting CI/CD pipelines for data warehouse and analytics deployments, including automated testing, code promotion, release management, and deployment automation using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or equivalent platforms
• Financial services experience: Preferred.
• Business Objects (SAP BO/Web Intelligence): Preferred.
