Job summary

Integrated Systems Technologies in Karnataka, India is seeking an SMT Technician to operate and optimize surface mount technology lines. You will set up printers, pick-and-place, reflow ovens, and inspection equipment, while ensuring high yield and safety compliance.

You will troubleshoot alarms, perform preventive maintenance, and collaborate with Quality, Production, and Engineering to resolve issues, documenting all activities and adhering to 5S/Kaizen practices.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelors in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • ITI with SMT experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate SMT line equipment; perform changeovers.
  • Load feeders, components and PCB programs; verify settings.
  • Monitor processes for quality and efficiency; troubleshoot alarms.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and daily cleaning.
  • Coordinate with Quality, Production and Engineering to resolve issues.
  • Maintain proper ESD handling and keep logs of production records.
  • Support Kaizen, 5S, and Lean manufacturing initiatives.

Job description

Job Title: SMT Technician (Surface Mount Technology Technician)

Department: Production / Manufacturing

Reports To: Production Supervisor / Production Manager

Job Purpose:

To operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize SMT production equipment while ensuring high-quality PCB assembly, maximum machine uptime, and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate SMT production line equipment, including:
  • Solder Paste Printer
  • Pick-and-Place Machine
  • Reflow Oven
  • SPI (Solder Paste Inspection)
  • AOI (Automated Optical Inspection)
  • Perform machine setup, changeovers, and product changeovers according to production schedules.
  • Load feeders, components, and PCB programs into SMT machines.
  • Verify machine settings before production.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot machine alarms and minor equipment failures.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and daily machine cleaning.
  • Replace worn or damaged machine parts as required.
  • Coordinate with Quality, Production, and Engineering teams to resolve production issues.
  • Ensure correct handling and storage of electronic components according to ESD standards.
  • Maintain production records, machine logs, and maintenance records.
  • Minimize machine downtime and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Follow all safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement (Kaizen, 5S, Lean Manufacturing).
Qualifications:

Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

ITI with relevant SMT experience may also be considered.

Experience:

2 to 5 years of experience in SMT manufacturing.

Technical Skills :
  • Knowledge of SMT process flow; Machine programming and setup.
  • Feeder setup and component verification; PCB assembly process knowledge.
  • Solder Paste Printing Process; Reflow profile understanding.
  • AOI and SPI operation; Preventive maintenance.
  • Root cause analysis; Basic electrical and pneumatic troubleshooting.
  • Reading PCB drawings and BOMs; MS Office basics.
  • Behavioural Competencies; Attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving skills; Teamwork and collaboration.
  • Good communication skills; Time management; Ability to work under pressure.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn; Production output achievement
  • First Pass Yield (FPY); Defect rate (PPM); Changeover time
  • Preventive maintenance compliance; Breakdown response time
  • Rejection and rework reduction; OEE improvement
  • 5S and safety compliance
Working Conditions:

Factory/production environment.

Rotational shifts as required.

Standing for extended periods.

Use of ESD protection equipment and PPE.

Perform machine setup and adjustments within approved parameters.

Stop production in case of major quality or safety issues.

Report equipment abnormalities and recommend corrective actions.
