Job summary

Generac is seeking a Simulation Engineer to advance engine and energy system models using 1-D and 3-D CFD tools. You will perform CFD/FEA analyses, in-cylinder combustion studies with Converge, and contribute to modeling workflows while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

The role requires hands-on experience with GT-Suite and MATLAB/Simulink, plus Python scripting for predictive analytics and performance forecasting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 3 years of experience in a Simulation Engineer, Analysis Engineer, or a related engineering discipline.
• 3 years of hands‑on experience with 1-D simulation with GT‑Suite.
• 2 years of experience applying MATLAB/Simulink and Python in engineering analysis and simulation.
• 1 year of hands‑on experience with GT‑xCHEM or CHEMKIN as applied to engine aftertreatment system modeling.

Responsibilities

• Perform system-level and component-level simulations using 1-D tools to support engine and generator design and development.
• Conduct CFD and FEA analyses to evaluate thermal, structural, and fluid dynamics performance of mechanical and energy systems.
• Conduct in-cylinder combustion analysis using Converge to optimize power cylinder design for efficiency and thermal management.
• Interpret simulation results and collaborate with cross-functional teams through design reviews and technical discussions.
• Contribute to the development of modeling workflows and analysis best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Document analysis objectives, methods, and results using standardized reporting formats.
• Apply data analysis techniques, including Matlab/Simulink modeling and Python scripting to support predictive modeling and performance forecasting.
• Stay informed on relevant technologies, tools, and industry trends to support continuous improvement.

Major Responsibilities

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field of study.

Certification / License Work Experience

• 3 years of experience in a Simulation Engineer, Analysis Engineer, or a related engineering discipline.
• 3 years of hands‑on experience with 1-D simulation with GT‑Suite.
• 2 years of experience applying MATLAB/Simulink and Python in engineering analysis and simulation.
• 1 year of hands‑on experience with GT‑xCHEM or CHEMKIN as applied to engine aftertreatment system modeling.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Proficiency in applying 1-D and 3-D CFD tools to internal combustion engine related systems, including thermal management, lubrication system, crankcase ventilation, combustions phasing, camshaft design, turbochargers, exhaust gas recirculation, and exhaust aftertreatment.
• Experienced in simulating in‑cylinder combustion using Converge.
• Experience with co‑simulation environments, including Software‑in‑the‑Loop (SiL) and Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HiL).
• Familiarity with machine learning and predictive analytics techniques applied to engine performance and emissions modeling.
• Familiarity with internal combustion engine exhaust aftertreatment system design and specification.
