- Supervise formulation and blending operations, including raw material charging, mixing, agitation, dispersion, homogenization, and batch processing, as applicable to the product.
- Monitor critical process parameters such as temperature, mixing time, agitation speed, viscosity, pH, density, and other product-specific specifications.
- Ensure proper handling, weighing, charging, and dispensing of raw materials as per approved batch manufacturing records (BMRs).
- Coordinate with planning, stores, quality control (QC), maintenance, and dispatch teams to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Ensure timely batch completion, equipment utilization, and adherence to production schedules.
B. Process Control and Quality Assurance
- Ensure manufacturing activities comply with approved batch manufacturing instructions, SOPs, and quality specifications.
- Coordinate with QC for in-process sampling, testing, batch clearance, and investigation of quality deviations.
- Monitor batch yield, material consumption, process losses, and product consistency.
- Investigate process deviations, batch rejections, and customer complaints in coordination with the relevant departments.
- Maintain proper documentation, including BMRs, batch records, production reports, and shift handover reports.
- Support process improvement initiatives to reduce rework, rejection, and material wastage.
C. Equipment and Maintenance
- Ensure proper operation and routine inspection of reactors, mixing vessels, storage tanks, pumps, agitators, transfer lines, filters, and other formulation equipment.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for preventive maintenance, breakdown handling, and equipment troubleshooting.
- Ensure equipment cleaning, line clearance, and changeover activities are completed as per approved procedures.
- Monitor equipment availability and report abnormalities, leaks, vibration, temperature variations, or other unsafe conditions.
D. Safety, Health and Environment (EHS)
- Ensure strict compliance with plant safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, PPE requirements, and safe chemical-handling practices.
- Conduct shift-level safety briefings and toolbox talks.
- Ensure safe handling, storage, transfer, and charging of hazardous, corrosive, flammable, or reactive chemicals, as applicable.
- Follow procedures for spill management, emergency response, waste disposal, and environmental protection.
- Ensure compliance with applicable fire safety, chemical storage, and occupational health requirements.
- Report near misses, unsafe conditions, incidents, and deviations promptly.
E. Manpower Management
- Supervise operators, helpers, and contract manpower working during the assigned shift.
- Allocate manpower according to production priorities and equipment requirements.
- Train team members on SOPs, safe operating practices, equipment handling, and quality requirements.
- Maintain shift discipline, attendance, productivity, and effective communication between incoming and outgoing shifts.
F. Documentation and Continuous Improvement
- Prepare daily production and shift performance reports.
- Maintain records of production output, yield, downtime, raw material consumption, rework, and process deviations.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities.
- Implement 5S, housekeeping, waste reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support internal and external audits, process validation, and quality management system requirements, as applicable.
