Inc42 is building a new YouTube division and seeks a senior editor who treats YouTube as its own language. You will own end-to-end long-form edits, craft story structure, and supervise multi-camera turnarounds.

You’ll apply AI-assisted transcription, cleanup, and upscaling daily to improve speed and quality. Your role requires independent, fast, and system-minded editing with a focus on retaining viewer engagement and delivering high-quality, data-driven stories for a prominent startup economy

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional editing with substantial long-form YouTube work.
• Proficiency in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve and After Effects.
• Colour and audio finishing, comfort with large multi-cam projects.

Responsibilities

• Edit long-form YouTube content end-to-end: explainers, founder interviews, podcasts.
• Structure edits for strongest moments, openings, momentum, and pacing.
• Fast, clean first cuts on multi-camera conversations with timely delivery.
• Incorporate visual storytelling: B-roll, screenshots, motion graphics, sound design.
• Create platform-native Shorts from long-form content.
• Develop templates, presets, and delivery specs; raise post-production standards.

Why this role exists

Inc42 is building its YouTube division from 0 to 1. We're revamping the channel, setting the strategy, building the formats and scaling it – long-form explainers, founder conversations, podcasts and original IPs built on a decade of startup journalism and data.

The edit is where that gets won or lost. We're hiring a senior editor who treats YouTube as its own language, takes a project from raw footage to final master without needing every decision prescribed, and sets the post-production standard the rest of the division works to.

What you'll own

• Long-form YouTube edits, end to end: Explainers, founder interviews, podcasts and documentary-style stories, from raw footage to final master. This is the core of the job.
• Story and structure in the edit: Finding the strongest moments, restructuring when the material demands it, building the opening and the momentum, knowing when to cut and when to let a moment breathe.
• Podcast and multi-cam turnaround: Fast, clean first cuts on multi-camera conversations, so a shoot reaches the audience while it still matters.
• Visual storytelling: B-roll, archival, screenshots, charts, on-screen text, sound design and everyday motion graphics that keep information-heavy subjects moving.
• Shorts from long-form: Platform-native Shorts and cutdowns that are rebuilt for the format, not chopped from the timeline.
• The post-production standard: Templates, presets, project structure, review workflow and delivery specs, including reviewing and raising the bar on freelance edits.
• AI in the pipeline: Transcription, cleanup, roto, upscaling, generative assets – used every day where they genuinely make the work better or faster.

Who you are

• A YouTube editor at heart: You know YouTube pacing is not television pacing, and your reel proves it.
• Editorially independent: You look at raw footage and see the story. You challenge weak sections and suggest structure, rather than waiting for a script to cut to.
• Retention-conscious: You can point to where viewers drop off in a video you cut, and explain what you'd change.
• Fast without being sloppy: You've delivered against fixed dates on footage-heavy projects, and your first cuts arrive close to final.
• Systems-minded: You think about how the next ten edits get faster, not just how to finish this one.
• AI-native: AI tools are part of how you work, not an experiment you tried once.
• Open on background: YouTube channels, digital newsrooms, creator teams or production houses. We care about the reel and the judgement, not the logo.

Must have: 6+ years of professional editing with substantial long-form YouTube work · Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve · working After Effects for everyday motion · colour and audio finishing · comfort with large multi-cam projects.

Good to have: podcast editing · documentary or explainer work · advanced motion design · event films.

Your first 30 days

• Get inside the channel, the formats in production and the current post-production workflow.
• Take over live edits, starting with podcasts, and bring first-cut turnaround down.
• Put the first version of the templates, presets and delivery specs in place.
• Agree the review and approval steps with the Head of YouTube & Distribution, with time limits on each.
