The Senior Systems Engineer

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for architecting, designing, implementing, supporting, and optimizing enterprise infrastructure platforms that enable business and clinical operations. This role serves as a senior technical leader and trusted advisor, partnering with infrastructure leadership, cybersecurity teams, application teams, architects, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, resilient, scalable, and highly available technology solutions.

The Senior Systems Engineer is expected to lead complex infrastructure initiatives, drive platform modernization strategies, establish engineering standards, and provide technical leadership across multiple technology domains. This role serves as a recognized subject matter expert responsible for solving highly complex technical challenges, mentoring engineers across all levels, and influencing infrastructure roadmaps and strategic technology decisions. This position expands upon the Systems Engineer II role through enterprise-level design responsibilities, technical leadership, architectural influence, and ownership of critical infrastructure initiatives.

General Responsibilities

• Provides expert-level technical leadership across multiple infrastructure disciplines while supporting enterprise initiatives and strategic objectives. Leads the design, implementation, modernization, optimization, and lifecycle management of enterprise infrastructure platforms.
• Drives improvements in reliability, scalability, security, automation, and operational excellence through engineering best practices, technical standards, and infrastructure governance. Participates in enterprise architecture discussions and provides guidance on strategic technology investments and platform direction. Demonstrates exceptional analytical, architectural, troubleshooting, communication, leadership, and mentoring skills while executing highly complex initiatives with minimal oversight.
• Primary Responsibilities Include

• Architect, design, implement, and support enterprise infrastructure platforms including servers, virtualization, storage, cloud services, identity services, and endpoint management technologies.
• Lead large-scale and highly complex infrastructure projects from planning and design through implementation, operational transition, and ongoing optimization.
• Establish and maintain technical standards, engineering best practices, operational procedures, and infrastructure governance frameworks.
• Drive automation initiatives utilizing PowerShell, infrastructure-as-code methodologies, orchestration tools, and process optimization strategies.
• Serve as the primary technical lead for Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, File Services, Print Services, SharePoint integrations, and related enterprise platforms.
• Design highly available, scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure solutions supporting critical healthcare operations.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and provide recommendations for platform modernization and strategic infrastructure investments.
• Lead root cause analysis efforts for critical incidents and implement long-term corrective actions.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to develop and implement enterprise security controls, vulnerability management programs, and compliance initiatives.
• Lead disaster recovery planning, testing, and business continuity efforts across supported platforms.
• Partner with enterprise architects, networking teams, database administrators, application teams, and business stakeholders to develop integrated technology solutions.
• Serve as the highest level technical escalation point for complex infrastructure issues.
• Mentor Associate Systems Engineers, Systems Engineers, and Systems Engineer II team members.
• Provide technical leadership during audits, regulatory reviews, and compliance assessments.
• Contribute to strategic planning, budgeting, capacity planning, and infrastructure roadmap development.
