dsm-firmenich seeks a Senior Specialist Automation to lead troubleshooting, programming, and integration across PLC, SCADA, MES, and digitalization projects in a manufacturing setting. You will support Industry 4.0 initiatives, ensure data integrity, and collaborate with IT for secure operations.

Ideal candidates have 6–8 years of industrial automation experience, hands-on exposure to major platforms, and strong problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

  • Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics, Automation Engineering or equivalent.
  • 6–8 years of experience in industrial automation, MES, and manufacturing digital technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC, SCADA, HMI, industrial networking, and process automation systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Siemens, Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Schneider, ABB, Mitsubishi, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience supporting MES applications, shop-floor systems, and automated manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols including Modbus, Profinet, Profibus, OPC, and Ethernet/IP.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts related to OT environments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and maintain PLC, SCADA, HMI, MES, and automation systems to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
  • Diagnose and resolve automation-related equipment failures, process control issues, and communication network faults.
  • Perform PLC programming modifications, online troubleshooting, backup management, and software version control.
  • Support MES systems, electronic batch records, production data collection systems, barcode solutions, and shop-floor digital applications.
  • Investigate and resolve integration issues between PLCs, MES, SCADA systems, weighing systems, printers, scanners, and ERP interfaces.
  • Maintain industrial communication networks including Modbus, Profibus, Profinet, OPC, Ethernet/IP, and TCP/IP-based systems.
  • Support installation, commissioning, validation, and qualification activities for automation and digitalization projects.
  • Maintain software backups, automation documentation, network architecture drawings, and system configuration records.
  • Support Industry 4.0 initiatives, process digitalization projects, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of automation, MES, and system failures to minimize manufacturing downtime.
  • Troubleshoot industrial PCs, operator workstations, thin clients, printers, barcode readers, network switches, and other manufacturing IT infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with corporate IT teams for server, network, cybersecurity, and infrastructure-related issues.
  • Support manufacturing applications and system administration activities including SAP functional support.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, Data Integrity, cybersecurity, and quality requirements.
  • Reading and interpreting P&IDs, control philosophies, network architecture diagrams, electrical drawings, and automation schematics.
  • Support VFDs, MCCs, motors, sensors, actuators, and field instrumentation integrated with automation systems.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Awareness of OT cybersecurity principles and industrial network security practices.

  • Participation in audits, risk assessments, system validations, and safety inspections.

  • Compliance with change management, deviation management, and CAPA processes.

  • Knowledge of hazardous area requirements and safe operation of automation and electrical systems.

You bring.


  • Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent.

  • 6-8 years of experience in industrial automation, MES systems, and manufacturing digital technologies.

  • Strong knowledge of PLC, SCADA, HMI, industrial networking, and process automation systems.

  • Hands-on experience with Siemens, Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Schneider, ABB, Mitsubishi, or equivalent automation platforms.

  • Experience supporting MES applications, shop-floor systems, and automated manufacturing processes.

  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols including Modbus, Profinet, Profibus, OPC, and Ethernet/IP.

  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience of industrial PCs, network devices, printers, barcode scanners, and manufacturing IT infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with SQL databases, data historians, reporting tools, and manufacturing data management systems will be an advantage.

  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts related to Operational Technology (OT) environments.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.

  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
