The role acts as a key bridge between business stakeholders (underwriting, claims, operations, actuarial, finance), platform engineering, and delivery teams to define solutions that support profitable growth, operational efficiency, and excellent experience.

  • Lines of business: P&C, Personal Lines, Specialty and A&H
  • Domain coverage: Distribution, quote & bind, policy, billing, claims, reinsurance, catastrophe management and finance
  • Solution types: insurance packaged platforms, custom build, digital portals, finance/shared services applications, integration, data & analytics, workflow/automation
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design of end‑to‑end solutions across underwriting, policy, claims, billing, reinsurance, underwriting, and digital channels.
  • Produce and maintain architecture artefacts (solution diagrams, interface specifications, design decisions) in line with standards.
  • Design for non‑functional requirements (performance, availability, security, resilience, supportability).
  • Liaise with analytics, infrastructure, operational resilience and security to have an end-to-end solution design
Business & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Work closely with underwriting, claims, operations, actuarial, finance, and distribution stakeholders to understand business objectives, products, and processes.
  • Translate business requirements and pain points into viable solution options, highlighting impacts, risks, and trade‑offs.
  • Participate in governance forums (architecture boards, design reviews, project steering groups) to present and defend solution designs.
Integration & Data
  • Design integration patterns between applications, platforms, shared services, and external partners
  • Define data flows and key data entities across underwriting, claims, finance, and regulatory reporting; ensure data quality, lineage, and appropriate use.
  • Promote standardized API design patterns, and reusable services to reduce duplication and increase agility.
Initiative Delivery Support & Technical Leadership
  • Provide architectural guidance to product owners, business analysts, developers, testers, and vendors throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Review solution designs, estimates, and technical decisions from delivery teams, ensuring alignment with target architecture.
  • Support issue resolution and root‑cause analysis for complex production or integration issues related to solutions.
Risk, Compliance & Security
  • Ensure solutions align with internal risk, security, and compliance policies, and support applicable P&C regulatory and reporting needs.
  • Embed controls for data protection, auditability, access management, and operational resilience in solution designs.
Continuous Improvement & Strategy
  • Contribute to technology roadmaps and target architecture, including decommissioning of legacy systems and adoption of strategic platforms.
  • Monitor industry and technology trends in insurance (AI, digital distribution, automation, straight‑through processing, data & analytics) and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Promote architectural best practices, patterns, and standards.
Qualifications

  • 1-2 years understanding of insurance business (ideally Commercial Lines).
  • Prior hands‑on engineering experience highly desirable
  • Deep knowledge in at least two of the following insurance platforms (Duckcreek/Guidewire), AI, cloud platforms, API‑led integration, microservices, and data architectures.
