Bitpanda is hiring a backend engineer to design and develop scalable, event-driven services using Java 21 and modern frameworks. You will optimize payment modules, implement robust testing strategies, and mentor junior developers in a dynamic, global environment.

Qualifications

• Advanced Java with Spring Boot and Micronaut; Java 21+ required.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (Postgres, MongoDB).
• Public REST APIs design with performance and scalability in mind.
• Experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ in event-driven microservices on AWS.
• CI/CD, Terraform and Kubernetes experience.

Your mission

You’ll get to work on the Financial Crime Prevention team building products, services and scaling solutions around protecting customers of Bitpanda by preventing fraud, implementing AML and many more essential regulatory and compliance solutions in the world of financial services. As we expand throughout Europe (and the world), there is an ever growing need of safety and reliability, particularly when 25+ million users utilise our services.

What you’ll do

Design and develop scalable, resilient, message‑driven services using Java 21. Write clean and future proof code with 80% unit test coverage, end‑to‑end and integration testing before deploying into event‑driven microservices architecture. Optimise payment modules/services to ensure reliability, maintainability, performance and scalability using tools like Datadog and Grafana. Drive innovation by researching and adopting the latest trends and technologies in backend development, ensuring our applications remain cutting‑edge. Be a technical mentor for junior developers, providing guidance and support to help them grow and excel in their careers.

Who you are

Advanced knowledge and experience of software development using modern Java frameworks such as Spring Boot and Micronaut with Java 21+ as your main programming language. A track record with both relational and non‑relational databases, preferably Postgres and MongoDB. Experience creating and maintaining publicly available REST APIs with a keen understanding of performance optimisation and scalability. Practical knowledge in using message‑oriented middleware (Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ) as we’re working with event‑driven microservices hosted on AWS. Extensive background with CI/CD and familiarity with AWS, Terraform and Kubernetes.
